I haven't seen those, are they on the same page? I'll take a look again, but maybe because they're not as conspicuous?

Mike A (snowblind) Posted Mar 21, 2000
Yeah, they're links on the guitarist page. Each page is linked up.

BluesDog Posted Mar 24, 2000

Just when I find this thread it looks like its fading out I'm not sure I have anything to contribute yet but I'm posting this to get it on my radar screen

I hate it when a thread die. Don't you?
I'm surprised. My OFG about The Secret Of NIMH provoked more comments rom other people then this OFG. I guess this one has one big thread & one small while the other has three tiny.
Ok, maybe I'm talking rhetoric now...

I must say Mike I am surprised you moved from Clapton to Iron Maiden I would normally expect movement to be the other way. Although every now and then I do get my Motorhead albums out of the back of the cupboard

I'm just wondering when my next 'musical revolution' will be *^_^*.
No, it's a bit of a problem to really get into one genre, and then find yourself moving onto another. What will happen to all the t-shirts and flags and posters and things? will they be eaten by moths? Luckily I'm not that far into the HM lifestyle...yet.

BluesSlider Posted Mar 30, 2000
I think my last Motorhead T-Shirt went a couple of years ago Generally I find that I still like music from the genres that used to be my favourite, I just play it less, but I suspect I'm stuck with the blues. A bit like Clapton, I just keep coming back to it

Oh yeah, I still listen to my old stuff. It's just that it's only about once a month!
But that stuff will always have a place with me. It's what got me into real music, oh yeah...

I think for most it works the other way around. At least it did for me, the first concert I ever went to was Led Zeppelin back in '77 and from there I started listening to more British rock, (since there wasn't alot of good American rock in the late '70's). From there it was pretty simple, if you like an artist, not only do you listen to their music but you also read every interview they give. Suddenly you find who influenced them, so you have to go listen to that.
Doing that lead me to Beck, John Mayall, Roy Buchanan, and then all of the old Delta Blues guys, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker and then back to Blind Blake, Roosevelt Sykes, Son House and of course Robert Johnson.
There I go rambling again.

Yeah, I took a similar journey although I never saw Zeppelin I did see Robert Plant with the Honey Drippers at an un-annouced gig at Uni, that was pretty good. Small, intimate room, a sweaty but knowledgable crowd and some excellent music

BluesDog Posted Apr 4, 2000
I would have enjoyed that. I remember when Plant toured with the Honeydrippers, I liked that album. It was different but still a nice effort.
Small gigs like that are always the best. That's one reason I look forward to the summer. I'll be on the road every weekend doing sound production for a number of bands in small venues. So far I know we'll be doing Blue Oyster Cult and Steppenwolf in spots that hold about 1,500 people. Another month and we'll be off.

BluesSlider Posted Apr 4, 2000
Blue Oyster Cult? Man, I haven't heard that name in years Must be nigh on 25 years since I heard 'Don't fear the Reaper'. Sounds like you are going to have a really good summer, I look forward to hearing all about it.

Oh, I know, when I heard that we were doing BOC I was pretty excited. I was a big fan back when they were big but never got a chance to see them. The big question of course is who is still left in the band. It seems when these older bands come out now its with only one or two of the original members. I'm really hoping Buck Dharma is still with them, he was an awesome guitar player.
We did Three Dog Night last summer and they had about 75% of their original lineup, not bad considering some of the others I've seen, unfortunately their lead singer had changed.
I'll let you know how it goes-only a month or so 'til it all starts up again.

The Iron Maiden Posted Mar 18, 2004
Oh god...to look back at how naive I used to be!
And the funny thing is...I'm coming back round full circle and getting back into Clapton again. Derek & The Dominoes and Blind Faith have been receiving spins recently. GOD that Dominoes album is AWESOME! Clapton's an interesting one to look at when learning guitar. Blues phrases and the whole pentatonic thing...plus it makes a nice change from power chords and tapping solos at 260bps
