Just a fact ... the movie with the most extras was Richard Attenborough's "Gandhi". In it, there is this funeral march scene, where Gandhi's dead body is taken from his home to the site where his body would be burned in the traditional Indian style. In 1950 (when this actually happened), a fantastically large group of people followed him, joined him in this march...to reproduce this effect, Attenborough put an ad in the paper, asking for common folk to come to Rajpath (where the procession began) and join in the procession as a way of showing respect to Gandhiji. Millions turned up, and were "paid" with free sandwitches (for lunch).
