My Brother was, a few years ago a student at Corpus Christi college in Cambridge which is patronised by Prince Philip. He told me once that on a visit, a friend of his, who I believe came from Ghana (somewhere in east Africa anyway, can't really remember) was asked by the great man:
"Where do you come from?"
When the the reply was "From Ghana", the Duke said
"Oh! Isn't that where they chop down all the trees and breed like rabbits?"
Apparently this caused a bit of a diplomatic incident as this chap was a bit of a major celebrity in his home country and wasn't best pleased with this reply.

On consultation with palace PR people I have decide to issue an apology for the previous posting.
I wish to say that not all commoners are dirty and I dearly love them all. I would be delighted to accept your offer of a (snatches it away from the five year old who received it instead) and will send it to a worthy charity as soon as it has withered.
(BTW didn't he once tell a journalist that he was going to have him shot or something?)

I accept your apology, although it is fair to say that I am quite dirty.
I would have thought that he was more likely to actually shoot the journalist, rather than just threaten to have him shot. Still, you never can tell.
