Someone got there first!: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F19585?thread=106530 You have to know just a little about football (you call it soccer?) but not too much to still find it funny. Taxes all done now? ><>

Hi there! I've been playing around with my page and I found a legit way to put in some pictures, although I guess they might not work for you. Can you look and tell me what you see? Thank you!

Every time I look at your page I end up reading your html code, which is a long way of saying I see pictures. Icon-type graphics of envelopes and things, in addition to the h2g2 blobs you already had there.

And I see you are using stylesheets, with a very nice bolding effect on the links. I had not thought to try that. I should look at your page more often.

Yes, the taxes are done, finally. I dropped them in the mail on Saturday which is the latest I have ever finished them (today is the last day to get them in the mail). My brother still hasn't mailed his. As soon as he does I rip the hard drive out of my computer ("rip" is a bit of an exaggeration) and put in a new bigger one, so I might be offline for a while if I mess something up.

How was your Easter?

Aha! Hide the pictures in a font! Very clever.

My Easter was very quite, except for the sound of paintbrush on woodwork. It's getting a bit tedious, but the long Bank Holiday is traditional DIY weekend in the UK. I have lots of half started bits but I want to get something completed before term starts again on the 23rd.

I'm using stylesheets am I? Oh yes, of course I am. smiley - smiley I knew that.

I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I've never done anything like it, just learning through doing. I have an plan in my mind of what I want it to look like and then try and find out how to do it. Such as the blockquote for the Ogden Nash. I just have a play around, look at other people's coding and also a web page with some easy tips, which I'd love to tell you here. That's where I got the idea about the picture font!

It did say that other browsers might change what can be seen, so I was curious.
I don't have an envelope, but a clipboard fot the stats page, a camera for the meet up photos, a spiderweb for Amy's museum and a sleek orange cat for Greebo. The new blue fish next to the dinofish link looks a bit strange, but actually looks quite like a coelacanth according to Moonlight. We're going to have a play about with her page next.

Good luck with the computer. I'm sure you won't mess it up! It seems to be the 21st century DIY activity for the holiday as you're not the only person I've heard of who's taking computers apart this week.

I seem to get half of them right.
Next to the dinofish link I see an envelope with a lightning bolt on it. Next to the stats page link I see a box that has a flag with an X on it on top (I think it's a flag, it's rather odd), then I get the camera, but Greebo has turned into another envelope with speed lines to one side, and then there is a spider web.

We don't get much of a holiday here, although most schools close for a week before Easter (not universities, however. There's a "Spring Break" that happens a few weeks earlier and only the students get the time off). Any time off for me now will be my vacation, for which I am well known to forget to take.

We haven't chatted in a while - last time I think you instant-messaged me but I didn't see until about 2 hours later, when you were gone.

I hope all is well. We held graduation ceremonies yesterday, so we now enter a week of extreme quiet on campus until the summer session starts. It's peaceful.

Hi there to you too.
*Gives Zeppo a pat*
We're in the middle of exam season, so there are lots and lots of frantic teenagers around. My subject is on 6th June, so they have a while, and a week off just before. I just hope the weather stays fairly, well, British, until after then. Nobody studies once the sun comes out, whicch is one advantage of an early exam.

If it's any help, we have some British weather over here. I've noticed the frantic teens here on h2g2. Are these standardized tests, with fill in the bubble forms? One of the largest test-scanning services has received bad press lately since they misgraded tens of thousands of exams, due to a bad answer key.

One of the bad answers said parallel lines go like this: _|

I love the parallel lines!
These are written module papers, asking for recall of information rather than recognition. Marked by umans, however they have been unable to recruit enough this year, so watch for the chaos in August.

They could always resort to the rumored grading method of tossing the papers down the stairs, and giving the ones that land on the top step the highest grade, etc. It's not the best grading method, but perfectly fair (everyone has the same lousy chances).

Hi there. I don't mean to barge in on your conversation, but I noticed Coely was online at the moment and I was hoping to say hi to my dear fishy friend. How are you? I have been away from the computer for several weeks. I'm afraid I had a bit of a relapse, but I have not had a drink since Feb. I only came back to h2g2 this week. I hope you are well and that I can talk to you soon.

Love,

I had my computer unplugged all of yesterday, since I was painting. I hope you had an enjoyable birthday.

Now my walls are painted "cornbread" which is a little bit too yellow, I think. I was sure that I would run out of paint, so now I have an extra gallon too.

If Zeppo sits very still near the wall and the light is just right you can hardly see him.

"cornbread" sounds much nicer than the "hot pink" overdose that was there before. smiley - smiley
Zeppo? Where are you? <......>
I've often thought it would be easier on the house work if I just had ginger carpet fitted. smiley - cat always sleeps in places likely to be trodden on anyway, but at least I wouldn't see all the fur left behind.

Whoops!

I seem to have done the same thing! I've been painting fence panels in my garden. The colour says "Autumn Red". I'd hoped for something the colour of a ripe conker. It's actually rather more orange than red, like a crunchy autumn leaf. In fact some might call it ginger.

<....> where are you?

Now was that smiley - cat or smiley - dog?

Funny how VR mimicks RL. Zeppo tripped me in the park today. I scraped my hand and hurt my pride, but other than that I'm fine.
