A Conversation for Mistaken Song Lyrics

The real line is:

"Diane's debutante back seat,
Of Jackie's car..."

That one confused me for a while, too, but I worked it out with determination after listening to the bridge of that song - which is still one of my most favourite pieces of pop music ever...smiley - winkeye!

I never heard it as anything else... but then I've got a good ear.

This may be in one of those books, but it's from personal experience as well. One day my mother and I were in the car and a Madonna song came on, I don't know which one, and the first line is "last night I dreamt of San Pedro". But all we could make of it was "last night I dreamt of some bagels"

Rewriting songs has it's own problems... I can't sing "The Twelve Days of Christmas" right anymore because my family rewrote the whole thing. And every time I sing that one Crash Test Dummies song I end up singing Weird Al's version...

I always sing the McKenzie brother's version of the Twelve Days of Christmas, and yeah, Headline News is far better than the Crash Test Dummies' Mmm-mmm-mmm song (very creative lyrics, huh?).
I used to work in an auto shop and we re-worked tons of lyrics for fun. We always sang Scorpion's "Big Tittie Nights"(Big City Nights) and Queensryche's "Big Tittie Woman"(Jet City Woman). Call us perverted but that's the kind of humor you find in a shop. Country songs we really ripped apart! I can't stand country, and it was the only fun I could have listening to country music. I personally like "We're from the country and we like sheep that way" (supposed to be "we like it that way"). I'm a city boy and it drove the rednecks in the shop nuts.

My personal favorite is sung to the tune of Eric Clapton's 'Cocaine'.
'When your hair falls out'
'you gotta get you some'
'Rogaine'

and instead of
'She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie'
'Cocaine'

I sing
'You'll go bald, you'll go bald, you'll go bald'
'Rogaine'
