Bantams over Europe

He is an old tart and I call the Sky Saturday programme 'The Old Tarts Show'. However at least he is prepared to follow through. He hasn't seen Ipswich yet and he could hardly tip Man City for the drop.
The test will be what he promises to do if he's wrong again.

2-0 when the wind blows and a clean sheet for the first time this season but they have not won yet still a great start.

Yes, it was the proverbial game of two halves yesterday. I thought we were second best in the first half, but stepped up a gear in the second. The new signings seemed to fit in well, and I was particularly impressed by Peter Atherton. He and David Wetherall should be a handy partnership to have at the back this season.
androyd - the local paper up here has actually invited its readers to suggest suitable penances for Rodney Marsh after we prove him wrong again. My favourite was that he should have his (re-grown) hair dyed claret and amber. Someone suggested that he should have the Leeds United club crest tattooed on his forehead, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I think they should sell locks of his hair to the fans it would help raise more money for a good cause.
when he is proved wrong this season he should be made to wear a full city kit every day for one year.

Good idea, TIMELORD - perhaps you should suggest it to City! I'm puzzled as to exactly how The Shearing Of Rodney is going to raise the promised money for charity - I haven't seen any sponsorship forms at Valley Parade. Perhaps Sky TV are paying for the rights to broadcast the event live!
androyd - in a manner of speaking, Rodney already is our mascot at all games. "Are You Watching Rodney Marsh?" has become one of the most popular City supporters' chants for when things are going well (and yes, that DOES happen sometimes).

Just thought I'd pass on this classic headline from the "news" section of the official Bradford City website: "Petrescu to make debut at Altrincham"!
It seems that City's new recruit Dan Petrescu is ineligible to play in our Inter-Toto Cup match on Wednesday. So he'll make his Bradford debut in a friendly away to Altrincham on Friday! He might have played in World Cups and European Championships - but now he's joined us, he's REALLY going to see the sights!

I've always rated Pet Rescue very highly and I reckon he is your best signing by a mile. He's good as a full-back or attacking wing-back and often scores crucial goals late in games. Hope he's not fit against us. As for the opposition I'll think you'll find he's grateful to get a long contract at this stage of his career and will give you 100 percent to prove he's worth it whoever it's against. Tell the truth now, did you in your wildest fantasy ever expect to have a top notch international player ineligible for a european match?

I never in my widest fantasies expected City to be INVOLVED in a European match!
And of course there'll be no more of those for a while now that we've been zapped by Zenit St. Petersburg. Last night's game was a painful reminder that we're going to need all the help Mr. Petrescu can provide when up against the best, but I am nonetheless greatly looking forward to seeing him in action at Anfield a fortnight on Saturday!

I should have known better.
I've just had a look at the official BCFC website, and discovered that we've arranged a friendly at home to Fiorentina next Thursday. Apparently they've promised/threatened to bring a full-strength team over from Italy for the occasion.
I think I'll overcome my usual aversion to friendlies and go along. I should, therefore, get to see Dan The Man sooner than I was anticipating in my previous posting.
My team and I must be gluttons for punishment...

Yes i said to my brother i might not be around the next time city are playing in a semi final of a european cup so we went to the match it was not the best 80 mins (we left after the second goal)football i have seen as we both work weekends we will only go to the odd game so i hope the next one is better.

It's a pity that you missed the third goal, which was so good that it got a round of applause from the crowd.
As for the likelihood of another European venture, Geoffrey Richmond has already said that we're going to apply to play in the Intertoto again next season. So we'll just have to hope that there aren't two more successful sides than us who want to have a go.

Shame about the result, but a good pre season training exercise though, at least your 'friendlies' were more competitive than most.
