Thanks, Krissy! I've actually just found the very last component I was looking for, which was a guide to the rules of the game - now duly added.
So, unless I have a sudden brainwave in the next couple of days, I reckon that I've now arrived at the finished article!
I'm REALLY pleased that you like the Club, and I look forward to seeing you here many times in the future!

Good girl! Now for the true test - what's best about Ginola, his legs or what he does with them?

Ormondroyd Posted Jan 17, 2000
Welcome to the Club, Zebedee... but I would just like to point out (a) that Krissy Lee is a serious Spurs fan, as you can find out by visiting her page, and
(b) Sexism is a yellow-card offence in my Club. Consider yourself warned, but not yet carded.

Sorry mate - caught out by the "brand-new" aspect of Krissy's footy fan claim, and just thought I'd congratulate her on choosing the right club. As for the legs question, I know some women who are very serious about their football and truly know their stuff, but they still go off on one fantasising about the post-match baths. Which is guaranteed to isolate most of the men from a mixed-sex footy chat.

Fair enough, and I'm sorry if I over-reacted a bit. It's all a sensitive area for me because I really love my footie (as you might have gathered), and I occasionally get accused of being an old-fashioned "man's man" because of it. Whereas, in fact, my regular matchday companion is one of those women who really know their stuff. She's a season-ticket holder and a long-distance traveller to away games, and it irritates her greatly that some blokes still just can't take female fans seriously. I don't for a moment imagine that you're one of those blokes.
But anyway, surely it'd be Ginola's HAIR that his admirers would dream about?

*ashamed*
I admit it. I love his drag-overs but I dream about his thighs.
LOL....
Not really. I actually tend to be one of those girly fans that winds up screaming at Chris Armstrong because at the Watford game I went to I saw him sit on about 9 openings. It's unbelievable. The shot would be right there and he would be looking around for someone to pass to. He's great at helping to create opportunities and he set Ginola up beautifully, but I think a striker needs to be on the attack more. Armstrong acted like he was frightened of the net.
Listening to the games, that really seems to be the Spurs' shortcomming. (besides always giving away the game point in the last 3 minutes). They have all these great opportunities and they just don't take them. Of course I've never seen Sicknote play and I only heard him when they lost to Chelsea last Wednesday, but they played a fierce opening half and if they had attacked on half the opportunities they had, they would have won easily. I think they just need more agressive strikers.
David, however, I must admit, is a GOD on the field. His footwork is UNBELIEVABLE. And Sol Campbell (SOL!!) is amazing. Andy and I listened to commentary on the Spurs/Everton game on Saturday and Sol and Walker saved our arses.
I agree with Andy. After the Watford game he told me that we'd do a lot better if someone could get Armstrong a shot of confidence so he acts more like a striker than a really good midfielder.
Not that I know anything about anything. I'm still getting the hang of it all. And nice to meet you btw!

Well - at the risk of putting a curse on Spurs - may I wish you all the best for this afternoon against Sheffield Wednesday. I admit that I have a vested interest in your game as it would help the Bradford City cause if Spurs win against our relegation rivals. So I'll be joining you in saying "Come on you Spurs" later today!
Tottenham Hotspur: an apology
Ormondroyd Posted Jan 22, 2000
I would like to apologise to all supporters of Tottenham Hotspur, especially my good on-line friend Krissy Lee, for the effect that my previous posting in this forum would appear to have had on this afternoon's results.
I must have jinxed Spurs. Can anyone think of another reason why they lost at home to Sheffield Wednesday? Apart from - by all accounts - missing any number of great scoring chances?
Tottenham Hotspur: an apology
Zebedee (still Pool God after all these years) Posted Jan 25, 2000
Well, Armstrong tripping over the ball when he was through on goal didn't help. My patience with that calamity has finally snapped. We came excruciatingly close to another respectable scoreline though - Gin almost had two, Shaggy one (all lovely curled screamers) and Armstrong really should have had a hat-trick with chances to spare.
That's football, I suppose.

Classic Krissy Posted Jan 25, 2000
Andy and I have gotten into the routine of just cussing Armstrong out almost every game. He's a great mid-fielder...what the hell's he doing out in front? He won't friggin' SHOOT.
Ah well.
Tottenham Hotspur: an apology
Ormondroyd Posted Jan 25, 2000
Yes, that was very much the impression I got from the radio on Saturday. Every time there was a report from White Hart Lane it was all about how awful Sheffield Wednesday were, how much Spurs were on top and how it could only possibly be a matter of time before Spurs scored. But we all know what happened...
Tottenham Hotspur: an apology
Zebedee (still Pool God after all these years) Posted Jan 25, 2000
I've actually defended Armstrong on Football365, and made such a good case (even if he's crap, help him out so we can sell him, etc) that Danny Kelly reproduced the letter in a Spurs fanzine. But no more. My patience with that clown has expired. We've a handful of promising teenagers - why not give them a chance? Or stick Korsten up front?
Tottenham Hotspur: an apology
Classic Krissy Posted Jan 26, 2000
Yep....
It was amazing actually watching Armstrong, with absolutely no one around and an open shot on the goal, look around despiratly for someone to pass to rather than shoot. They play better than most teams, they make more opportunities, they just need sombody up there who's going to TAKE them.
Tottenham Hotspur: an apology
Zebedee (still Pool God after all these years) Posted Jan 28, 2000
The guys I drink with at matches are getting very frustrated - the other London clubs seem to find world-class strikers on demand - but do we really want short-term solutions?
GG has bought 5 players aged 17-20 in the past fortnight and all are highly rated and most of them youth internationals - so the future is bright - look what his buying policy has done for the current Leeds team!
Tottenham Hotspur: an apology
Ormondroyd Posted Jan 29, 2000
Exactly. And although Alan Sugar isn't the most popular of blokes, he is showing a wisdom rare amongst chairmen in backing GG's long-term planning.
Quick fixes don't last. My Bradford boys are frantically pursuing Stan Collymore at the moment, a fact I find very worrying indeed.
I mean, haven't we got enough problems already without bringing an overpaid prima donna on board?

Aren't they chasing Cadete as well? How old is he now?
Tottenham Hotspur: an apology
Ormondroyd Posted Jan 30, 2000
That's right, City are after Cadete. I've just looked up his age and he's 31, which I guess isn't too bad.
Tottenham Hotspur: an apology
Zebedee (still Pool God after all these years) Posted Jan 30, 2000
Hey - good player. I was under the impression he was getting on a bit. He's surplus to requirements at Benfica, but I don't know who he's lost his place to so could be a really good acquisition. Actually, maybe Spurs coule use him!
Tottenham Hotspur: an apology
Ormondroyd Posted Jan 30, 2000
Oi! We saw him first - and we need him more urgently...
Actually, I've just read that our Chairman is having talks with Cadete's "representatives" tomorrow, so here's hoping. We're at home to the Arse on Saturday, and I'm sure you'd want us to win that one!
Key: Complain about this post
