OK, so all due sympathies if they are not getting payed what they are due.
However, as (presumably) professional sportsmen surely they are cutting off their noses to spite their faces. How many further opportunities are they likely to get to play in front of the whole world and in its most presigious tournament?
Secondly, with presumably also most (all?) of the world's football managers and scouts watching, they could earn a darn site more money than they'll ever miss out on here if they get talent spotted by a wealthy club.
What a bunch of pillocks.

I suspect a case of brinkmanship here, trying to scare the Togolese authorities into coughing up more. However, it's certainly true that the World Cup is the ultimate showcase for a player, and that's probably why they now seem to have decided to play against Switzerland after all: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2006/teams/togo/5092382.stm
