A Conversation for How do I...?
How do I do one of the hardest things I've had to do?

Right. This is a really strange place to post about this, but on balance I think it'd be good to stick it here and see what kind of replies I get...
I have to write an email that I really can't make myself write. It's to my family's therapist, (yes my family has a therapist- don't ask.)
I finally understand a few things and I need to ask for help. But eveytime I sit down to write the email I get stuck. I've been trying for the last month and have only succeed in creating nine half-writted drafts to clog up my email with. I can rant for a few hours on word, or in a new email...I've left it for a while and come back to it, but I Can't. Send. Anything. It's driving me nuts. I'm going to be stuck with these problems forever if I don't do something...so why am I terrified of doing anything about it?
Right. I guess I'm asking for methods of overcoming procrastination when you're scared of doing something? Any takers?

Keep it very short... "I need some help, can I come and see you"...
You might well find it easier to thrash out the problems with a professional in person...
What you're trying to do at the moment is lay down in an orderly and comprehensible way what your problems are, and if you could do that easily on your own you'd probably be half way through to not needing any help...
So let the professional help you to sort those things out.

The reason you are afraid of doing anything is you are worried about openning the floodgates.
However, as someone who has a phychiatrist for bad depression and sever anxiety, let me tell you the sense of relief when you finally get around to doing it is fantastic!
Above all remember even after you have sent E mail or further on, remember you can change your mind at any time and stop as YOU are in control.
.
I ended up seeing my phychiatrist only by chance as although I knew I needed help, the depression pulls you back like a rubber band and stops you getting the help you desperately need. I ended up getting physically ill due to anxiety/depression, so bad infact someone called an ambulance!
However it was a relief after to get the help I really needed.
,If I can help at all then no problem.

I concur with Whiskey; but print out all those drafts and take them with you to your appointment and either use them as an aide memoire or hand them to your therapist.

Why do you not do your task? Ask this of yourself. Is this a good thing to do? Will it cause pain to others? Is it true? Will it bring peace to, yourself, others? Must it be done? If you unburden yourself will another be made to carry your burden? Is this fair?
If you choose to do this write all down, everything, do not worry about being proper in your writing. Empty your heart. Wait for a day, read what you have written. If it is still in your heart then write it the way you should for form and send it. If you are doing a thing it may be hard wether it is good or not. Often the good things we do are the hardest to do. The longer you wait the heavier the burden becomes and the more you dwell on fear.

The hardest things I've had to do are:
1. Tell my dad my mam was dying.
2. Tell my dad my brother had died.
Both were intimidating, but necessary at the time.
Both were heartbreaking.

Ysabell,
It's good that you were able to take that first step as it is always the hardest. How is everything working out now that you're a little further down the path?
