...and get away with it?
What you must first remember is that you know a lot more about your life than anyone else does. For this simple reason, you can tell people anything you want and they're bound to believe you since you are naturally the authority on the subject. The most effective way to lie to someone is to tell them about something you always wished was true, but tell it as if it were true. That way, you've already thought about it quite a bit and will remember that you just lied about it.
Another good thing to do is trick yourself into believing your lie. Examples of this are: "I have a good salary," "people like me," and "I'm involved in a long-distance relationship." But with these things you must be very careful lest someone discover the truth and think you're just plain mad.
If you're ever suspected of being a liar, give up. Or don't and take a risk of making the lie much, much better. It's good if someone asks, "Did you lie to me?" because it's really easy to say "Yes," and let that be the end of it. There really is no good response to a simple "yes" and this will leave most people bewildered while you escape.
That should be about enough for a beginner, so go out and try it today, whether on a co-worker, parent, child, or significant other. It's always a great relief of tension and better for you than a cigarette. Remember, don't panic...
