How do I click my fingers?
Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Nov 16, 2003
Eh - let's see... I've never been able to click my fingers with my right hand, only with my left hand, so maybe you should try both to find out which works best?
1 = thumb, 5 = little finger
Put the fingertips of 1 and 3 together, 2 sticking straight out, 4 and 5 bent down creating the 'resonance box' needed to enhance the sound
Press 1 and 3 together real hard and let 3 slide off no 1's fingertip down onto the root of 1, next to 4 and 5
Keep practising and be patient

Maybe you should try taking your rings off?
Clicking your fingers is a bit like whistling - it takes a lot of practising and patience - I never thought I'd learn to whistle when I was a kid, but I did.
Maybe you're not crap at 'stuff like that' but give up too soon/too easily?

well, your fingers need to be a little bit moist as well. too dry and you won't get a sound; too wet, and they'd slip off each other. try to have your middle finger a little to the side of your thumb as well - i find that having it centred doesn't do the clicking any good.

Is the question, "How do I snap my fingers?"
Really, there are plenty of ways to make a snapping sound; basically, anytime your finger moves pretty fast towards your palm (usually because it's been pressing down on something (like a thumb) and that thing is moved out of the way) and hits something (usually your palm), it'll make a snapping sound. The sound you make in a typical snapping motion isn't your finger and thumb rubbing together; it's your finger hitting your palm.
I like to snap by bending my left pinkie finger towards the back of my left hand with my right middle finger, then pressing down until my pinkie finger slips out of the way. My right middle finger then hits the back of my left hand, which is in between my right middle finger and my right palm. There's a loud snapping sound when my finger hits the back of my hand, but it seems to an innocent bystander that my pinkie finger is "snapping" back into place.
Did that make any sense? Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is that there's more than one way to snap your fingers.

I expect it depends on the shape & musculature etc of your hand. Definitely needs dry skin.
I click my fingers by pressing ring finger tip against thumb tip & down into palm, with thumb coming to rest against middle finger tip.
Now my thumb joints are getting arthritic, it gets painful to do it too often!
