can i mend it? or have i got to get the sewing kit out. the pully bit goes up and down but the teeth dont join.

That sounds like it's got worn out - too loose.

I think you are stuck with replacing it (or the whole item).

I would've thought that replacing the zip would be your only option. Good luck...

In my experience I'd agree with Kerr. A broken zip bodged together is likely to come apart again, assuming you can get it together without breaking it more.

You could always try the old "long lace through holes punched down either side" thingy. It always works for me!

If you are really feeling that pathetic about it, you could resort to industrial-style stapling of the velcro strips to the material edging the area instead!

If it's a nylon zip there's no hope, but if it's metal there's a chance but it takes patience It's not too hard to replace a zip though

Pray tell, Granny. I have an excellent pair of jeans that I *really* do not want to ascribe to the "long lace" brigade....

Before I start, do you have a sewing machine with a zipper foot?
