Lurking is welcomed on h2g2 and it is not considered rude to join a conversation thread. (Providing it is not obviously a personal thread between 2 people - then it is a bit rude to just jump in).

Aaaaah. I see. I wish I had known about this sooner. Its... interesting.

Because it is such a *huge* site then there is something for everyone, and after a look around then people generally find an area that they prefer to hang out.
