This I believ is one of the most important freedoms we have. I go to a catholic high school, but am not catholic in any way. I still have to go to masses! I have to go there is no choice in the matter what so ever. This is in fact breaking the first fundamental freedom we have. Now many people will say that because I goto a catholic school that i have to part in the masses. That states that the catholic school board in Ontario is above the federal laws of Canada. This is not so!

Erm, just out of curiosity, how many school boards are there in Ontario/your city/your area?

I ask because here in Montreal we've switched from the religious school boards to French and English. And I know they're supposed to offer a course on "ethics" for people who don't wish to take the religious courses. Hmm... or maybe that was before the school board changed and was dropped after? And I know that doesn't really apply to attending Mass. Heck, I had a family friend who had to buy a cross and a bible for school, even though she's Muslim (and they're quite against crosses -- why venerate a torture device?) (I use the past tense since the friend is now in T'rana). I don't know, I just go to Uni here, never mind me...

this has now changed, i brought the issue to the vice priniple and with the Canadian chater of fundemnntal reights and freedoms started fighting. I got the expected answers. so i went a level higher, i brought it to the school board in the form of a formal letter. this got things done. However what they did wasn't nearly enough! But i am still thank full that they have indeed granted me the right not to attend school massses. Is this not a right that i already had.
