having lived in omaha far too long I find the jewel reference appropo
:in order to unearth anything resembling beauty one has to dig through thousands of pounds of what is essentially earth worm feces & mistreat indigenous peoples in the process -I think that out dear author here just has an incredible weak spot for the town he mostly grew up in-not that there's anything wrong with that. It's not too bad a place but hardly comparable to the joy of the soil itself or the things that were destroyed to put it there

I thank you for your kind words. I am a traveller, but my heart has always been in Omaha. While I currently reside in the well documented paradise that is California, I find this state leaves much to be desired. Poverty and greed reign here, while compassion and class live in an overlooked midwestern town.

you do realise that omaha is entirely owned by the three most entrenched ,evil,& thoroughly pervasive horrors the corporate world has bothered to come up with:con agra (family farm killing, environment poisioning, worker exploiting, overcharging, unavoidable, over packaging cretins that they are),insurance (in the form of mutual of omaha-which nobody here really wants me to get started on)& finally the most loathsome-the telemarketing industry.TJ-remember that greed is one of the reaons you left-greed for family, more opportunities, education,& something to do in your spare time that was worthwhile.I'm of the firm belief that if you want community try a small town (which omaha is not) or a nice huge city not an overgrown suburban area.

Con Agra markets cheap food. They don't overcharge, but they do pollute the environment and treat farmers like horse feces. Omaha has one of the best public education systems in the country however. There are also plenty of opportunities. It is sad that telemarketing, insurance and Con Agra run wild in the city, however there are other things going on there.

they charge approximately four times as much for what they sell as what their net cost is-& yes omaha is grating heavily on my nerves -as for the school system i might just point out that it's students drop out in heavier volumes than in other cities a la pump up the volume
take care

of course not but still I''m sure you remember how "kind" certain administarators were & how eager to kick students out/encourage them to disenroll.....mostly certain highschool vice principals at central tho' the principal himself wasn't too bad - I was just tryin to use less space by not having to explain that sometimes one gets higher test scores from students by preventing those 'lower testing' students
from attending to take those tests.
