A Conversation for Motion Picture Association of America Ratings System

The San Diego Chargers *will* make it to a Super Bowl, just wait 'till Ryan Leaf finally decides not to injure himself! Just you wait! I'm not bitter! What?

Anyhow, that was a really really thorough article. I have no idea why I read it, since I'd qualify as one who boo's and hisses at the screen. However, I think the whole ratings system thing is losing ground to critics, who give a more thorough explanation of exactly why one should or should not watch a movie. They're everywhere, in the newspapers an' local news shows an' all the rest, and they usually say whether the show has a bit of bad language or a lot of exploding government buildings. The adverts for the movies usually tell all as well, if they've got it they'd flaunt it, as much as possible on prime time television. The ratings system seems to only confirm people's preconceptions, it seems...

The problem with sex vs. violence, i.e. actual destructive acts, is pretty bad, though... I'm sure lots of kids use the "Don't worry, it's just gratuitous violence, not sex or anything" 'scuse... I know I did. hehe

You "did", Fenchurch? What do you do now? The opposite - "don't worry, it's just sex, not gratuitous violence or anything..."?

Am I missing something here...?

P.S. - keep us informed about the Chargers: the Superbowl is the ONLY American Football game we actually get to watch live, here, all year! Actually having some reason apart from colours and geography for supporting one team over another would be an interesting change...!

Now I'm an "adult", so I can see all the gratuitous sex and violence I want. smiley - winkeye

Well... they ain't gonna make it this year, I'm 'fraid smiley - sadface. Ryan Leaf, orur Quaterback whom the team payed five gazillion dollar on keeps getting hurt, and he's all we have... but *eventually*, we will. Really.

Even *I* know it's not payed. Sorry, it was too obvious a mistake for even my Minister of Spelling and Grammar to take seriously smiley - winkeye

I'm a bit more worried about "orur Quarterback", and I'm generally suspicious about any public figure who makes casual use of the word "gazillion"!

Thankfully, I actually work for you, so my suspicions need not bet influenced by actual hostility, but it may become an important policy issue!

Need not 'bet' influenced? Are you sure that public office payment isn't going to any of these Chargers games? I'm worrying about you, now... smiley - smiley

I hate reading over what I've typed. I could about three gaz- err.. *hundred* errors in that little bit. Just great. smiley - winkeye

One of the attributes of a truly great leader, Fenchurch, is that s/he can always pick up the mistakes of the leadership's team!

I have access to no public funds. In fact I'm hard-pressed putting together funds of any kind!

How are the quizzes going (or have they already gone), incidentally?

PS Why am I not on your Cabinet page round at Shazz's place...?

All the ones I've been worried about have been... well... passed. smiley - winkeye. The rest should be no big deal.

Shazz's very busy lately with the Post and all, so the cabinet page hasn't been played with since about the third day after the results. I should probably get around to doing it myself, she's got too much on her hands...

I think I can deal with that...smiley - winkeye!

Always good to be "Rex incognitum" anyway!
