I used bad judgement and gave someone my e-mail, noe they are harassing me and my other friends. I want to change my name on h2g2 but when I have tried in the past I still show up on his friends list, just with the new name. What do I do???

No matter what you do, the user will still have you on your friends list. As far as I know, there's no way to remove your name from there.

However, harassment is against the site's rules, and we should be able to help you get rid of any postings that are harassing. I'll come take a look now, and see what I can do to help .

But it isn't on here!!! I made a mistake and gave someone my e-mail, he is also harassing my ACE who I speak to by e-mail!! I don't know what to do???

Oh, okay . If it's by e-mail, then you're pretty much stuck... I take it that you've asked him to stop? If so, then you could try sending an e-mail to his provider's help address, and see what they do. If that doesn't work, you'll have to just ignore him until he goes away.

Also, if he's on h2g2, do you have his h2g2 account number? That's the code that starts with U and has six digits after it.

Hmm... I'm not sure. I looked around online, and couldn't find a page telling me. You could try using abuse@, which is usually read by someone at the company.

If his e-mail address ends in @activemail.co.uk, for example, you could try e-mailing [email protected]. Try it, and tell me if it works or not .

Yeah, try emailing abuse@, if that doesn't work go to their website and try and find an abuse page or address.

BTW, why do you want to change your name here? Is he harressing you on site as well? If so then you should click the complaints button next to the postings he harresses you in, and they will be hidden, and he will probably be given an official warning to stop or he will be banned. Your nickname doesn't mean a lot, it is your U-number that everything goes by, you would have to sign up again as a completely new account to change that.

Tango is absolutely right.

We do not have jurisdiction over the way Researchers behave off h2g2 (including email) but if they misbehave here, the best way is to hit the complaints button when you feel that they have overstepped the line. If people consistently break the House Rules or are acting in a threatening way towards other Researchers, they put their h2g2 account at risk. h2g2 is a friendly place and we try our hardest to keep it that way.

I've just been to the researcher's page, and it says that you have him on your friend's list, in which case you can easily remove by clicking delete name. You don't appear on his list though.
