"Discuss this entry" in my personal space
a girl called Ben Started conversation Apr 15, 2001
Can I delete or move threads which have been begun by other people in my Personal Space? Some of them are old, some are irrelevent. I tried unsubscribing, but that didn't work. This is my space, and I dont want old old stuff blocking it up between my space and my journal.
Thanx

funny you should mention this, I've just contributed to a thread for a new researcher called " com cafe ", but somehow, in going to previous pages etc. etc in getting back out of it, I found I had duplicated my entry, aND WANTED TO DELETE ONE OF THEM, THER MUST BE A CLEAN SIMPLE , HANDY,way to do this, please excuse the capitals, I wasn't looking at the screen.
I've looked and looked but can't seem to get to the bottom of this, I also tried to unsubscribe, but it didn't help/
Any aces out there want to let us in on the secret?

JUst happened across your entry at an appropriate time, as it had just happened to me, and couldn't remember your name as I was replying to your entry.
Do I understand that the entire help system is being moderated?

Ben,
you can unsubscribe from any conversation. The unsubscribe button sometimes is ahrd to find, but usually it will be at the bottom of a conversation.
What's going to happen when you unsubscribe:
If it was a 'standard' conversation, it will no longer be included in your conversations list, you'll get rid of the thread.
If it was a conversation that was connected to your personal space, it will still be displayed on your personal space, but no longer in your conversations list. Just in case you have not yet found that out: If you are the 'conversation' type of researcher, you may want to bookmark the page .../MPxxxxxx instead of .../Uxxxxxx as your standard h2g2 page. Unwanted conversations are not displayed on that page, so this may solve your problem. I mean, *You* know your personal space, so there's no need to watch it over and over again ...
And others who want to contact you via that page will be displayed on the .../MPxxxxxx page.
And, just by the way:
Your User# is U148580: (1+sqr(4))x(8+5+8+0)=42
Hope this helps
Jeremy

Hmmmm
I'll have to try that. I just want to clear some of the dead conversations off my page, so that it is cleaner for visitors. Its MY space, and they are MY visitors...
I tried unsubscribing, and it didnt achieve the effect I wanted.
Can we ask for this facility please?
Thanx all

There is currently no way to delete conversations. The original thinking behind this was that it'd be nice to keep everything - absolutely everything - for posterity.
One recently implemented feature was the ability to 'delete' journal entries. They are not actually deleted, but by unsubscribing from your own journal entry, it is no longer visible from your user page.
A similar thing could be implemented for conversations on your page, but I suspect that because of the way the database works, this wouldn't be very practical. The text of your user space, and the conversations, are basically a normal guide entry - the extra stuff at the side and bottom are added to make it a user space. And so there isn't any special code for manipulating these parts of your user space, which don't apply to all guide entries.
The only thing I can really suggest is to start up lots of lively conversations on your own page. Then the new ones will push the old ones off the bottom of the visible list!

But that will also push the journal entries further down the page too...
Would it be possible to give the "owner" of the article editorial rights over the visibility of the conversations? Personal Spaces would be "owned" by the researcher in question, likewise unapproved guide entries. Other guide entries would be "owned" by the Towers.
Just a thought.

That's a possibility.
Are you talking about journal entries or conversations on your user space? They're two different things. You can make journal entries invisible by unsubscribing; and push conversations off the screen with new conversations as mentioned above.

I am talking about conversations. I can and have deleted irrelevent journal entries.
So from what you are saying the real-estate occupied by the conversations which sit between my Personal Space and my Journal Entries is finite - and I can "hide" conversations by pushing them out of it?
I actually want my Journal entries to be more visible, and the conversations to be less visible.
Dont worry, I am a realist, and will live with the site as it it.
