h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Sent the day in a marketing manager networking group. People come from way different places (in Denmark, not that differenmt...) and different companies - but we've met 3-4-5 times by now, so the group's beginning to get closer and really share and participate. Quite good professionally but there are also always things to get and grow from personally.

Today, in a break, I had a chat with the moderator (whatchamacallit) and two of the ladies in the group who're both between jobs. One of them - as well as a third who was there but not near this talk - recently just quit simply because she couldn't face herself in the mirror in the mornings. The company strategy and direction were to different from hers.

We all could readily agree that that sort of living up to your own values is both important and admirable. It led to a discussion of how and from where you get your value set. Personally, mine springs - in my present stage in life - from the family. This is where we work out and decide and (easily, it turns out) what is important. And what's not. And with that in the trunk, facing the tough decisions out there is not that tough.

Nothing else matters, really.

Aside 1: A few of us also discussed that these things are also so much easier with age - when we were 28, insecurity was stil a large part of everything. Now, we're much better at trusting our gut feelings and instincts. Because we've been there before and know they hold up.

Aside 2, and this is truly aside: The meeting was at hosted at Kopenhagen Fur. I didn't realise, but Denmark's the world leading producer of fur, in quantity) but also in quality and animal welfare (the two latter actually goes tightly hand in hand).
