Or at least it was on Friday when Diana Krall gave a concert in Copenhagen.
Rather than giving a blow-by-blow gloating review, I will merely say that I was impressed! I knew that I should expect very good piano play and lovely singing. We got that - and more!
I don't believe there's anything Diana Krall cannot do on or with a piano - and I don't think there's anything she dare not do. Slow and soothing tunes, up-tempo - or up-up-tempo - ones, bluesy boogie-like songs with an absolutely lethal left hand.
And then she sings. *sighs*
Two last things - she completely won over an already mesmerised audience when, after a massive applause for a solo piano/song number, she said with a voice that almost broke from being touched by the audience warmth: "I think I'll buy an apartment here. Sit at some bar and play into the wee hours"
And before the last of the extras, we got a little, dry but discreet comment to the state of the world, maybe about her southern neighbour (DK is Canadian): "There a lot going on in this wolrd. This next song is maybe rather appropriate" - followed by "Let's face the music and dance".
There may be trouble ahead...
I shouldn't forget the excellent trio she brought along: Anthony Wilson (g), Peter Erskine (dr, ex-Weather Report), Robert Hurst (b).
