'Emmily, I am thinking about covering the tag when re-designing my personal space - Do you think I should cover the tag in my welcome page or the beginning of my personal space?.'
Entirely up to you Nigel
I've not seen any recently to show you (I'm sure TiT will know of at at least one ), but there's some funny uses of tag, such as 'I blame for xyz', then on the PS you could read irate posts from people who hadn't know about the tag. I hope someone posts a link to at least one of these, they're quite funny.
Oh, and your new welcome message looks great IMO.

It looks great to me Nigel
If I was a newbie and read that I would feel like finding out more - and that's what it's all about.

Nigel, has anyone told you we only post our Ace Welcome messages on the PS of those registered with h2g2, and how difficult it can be to tell who they are sometimes.
As I understand it, there are many BBC Message Boards, and due to Single Sign On, whenever someone registers with any of the message boards, they automatically get a PS on h2g2, and often they are not aware of this.
Some are easy to see such as - (U11268904) have registered with 'Talk Wales' and would not get an Ace Welcome Message.
If there's no posting on the PS, it's (as far as I'm aware) impossible to tell.
Oh, and don't be disappointed if you don't get a reply to your welcome messages, most don't reply, but it's the ones that do reply that make it all worthwhile.

Emmily,
I welcome all new researchers - even if they have only posted to other boards, I have had a few "converts" this way.
I know other ACEs don't but that is their choice - just as some don't welcome Ravenites
We were advised some time ago that it's ok to Welcome all

Thank you for your advice . I never knew that different message boards came up on h2g2, it is something for me to be aware of.
I understand Feisor why you welcome all researchers. I will start off by welcoming new h2g2 people, if I can tell the difference , then I will go on and welcome all newbies that appear in h2g2.

Feisor, but I've had too many bad experiences though posting my Ace Welcome message on non-h2g2 registered Personal Spaces.
Including, one welcome message being removed, and I got a slapped-wrist email - 'your posting has been removed blah, blah, blah'. I can't remember the rule I supposedly broke, but I appealed and got an apology, but the post was not reinstated, even though the person registered with h2g2 about 10 mins after my posting was removed. That was a couple of years ago, but it still pi$$e$ me off now.
Then there was that one that I emailed aceforum about a couple of months ago, asking for the Eds to intervene. For about a week that guy just kept having a go at me. I'd apologised and explained, but he just wouldn't let up.
Apart from the odd exception, I now only post my Ace Welcome on the PS of newbies who've made at least one post on hootoo. Sorry if that makes more work for other Aces, but I seem to be one of the unlucky ones that get the worst results from doing nothing wrong.
I think you've got the right idea Nigel, stick to Welcoming those you can tell have registered with h2g2, at least until you have gained confidence, and make any future decisions then.

Emmily,
I totally understand your position on newbies from other sites - and I know that others feel the same (especially with the Ravenites)
I was just letting Nigel know that, if he likes, it's ok to Welcome them all.
When I see your welcome on a newbies page I know that they are in warm and caring hands.
Feisor
