am i right in saying Intern, that once you have finished it, unooficial welcomers can use it as a reference when they inevitably find themselves answerless to a newbies question?
also as a good guideline as to how to welcome newbies?

more or less what we find is that people that do a unofficial welcome dont put any links/not very good links in so hope fully this will be a guide for it
becouse unofficial people are alloud to welcome new users as well

Ok, the ultimate, question...
a few new members might find a help group will work if someone who knows what they are doing, sets it up.
Why dont we try and make a new group up, thats ran by ACEs and researchers that would like to join us in helping?
Good idea I think..
It might be nice for them to see I'm making an effort to find help with these things and that the group I am helping with is ran by people who know what they are doing..?

I'm just suggesting, because I want to prove to them, I can do it the right way, which is what they are waiting for me to do at the moment.

yes i know that. but if everyone went off welcoming newbies it would negate the ACES.
i've been on the list to become an ACE for ages now, not once have i tried to make my own 'club' as i appreciate the rules and regulations and requirements of being an ACE.
perhaps your help page setup could be connected to the ACES and have an incentive to the members or users of it that they will get good reviews if they 'welcome responsibly' via it? and then even become an ACE too. a lot of thought is required with this but i like the help page idea for those that choose to 'unofficially' welcome newbies. i keep using single inverted commas around 'unofficailly' because i want to highlight what they are doing and emphasise what i said yesterday at some point, if you want to welcome then why not just join the ACES? you get untold help and advice on dealing with newbies and a badge on your space and it is what they are here for
but if people are going to insist on 'unofficially' welcoming newbies with links etc then your help page is a fantastic idea, if they read it.
i am not saying no one but ACES may post to newbies, if someone registers and states an interest or just cathches your eye via something they said then obviously post to them
but all these 'unofficial' groups i fear will do more harm than good in the long run in regards to regulating this site and keeping it organised.

Liam, to do it the 'RIGHT' way would be to apply to join the already established ACES or Guardian Angels. they are an organised group and recognised by the BBC staff as doing the site a service. IT IS WHAT THEY ARE THERE FOR!
everything you say you want to set up is already up and running within these organisations and is run by ACES or higher!

Well if I can get the ACE page 'A' number and a name to call the group, I will take extra care in the way I set it up, and explain to the researcher what I am doing, so not to just pop out of nowhere with a new group.
I won't advertise it, but I will let it know that a group will be made... or an 'unofficial group' would be made ahould I say...
I will take extra care, and if I get stuck I will ask this time, just just turn to my own thoughts...
What do you think?

Easy Zyrak,
We've all done stupid things in the past, and I would hate to think that I wouldn't give another chance to someone because of a few foolish mistakes. Saying that we don't want him on site is very strong and I think wrong. This is the place for life the universe and everything.
Liam,
Some advice for you.
To make a mistake once is understandable, twice is forgivable but surely now it is time to learn from the mistake. Stop making new user ID's, stop changing your name, and stop trying to set up this unnoficial help group. As someone said to you, try having a spell as a human being and chill around the site.
Think of your own interests (try and seperate from the caring, give yourself a break) Go to the various writing fora Peer Review, The AWW, The Post.
Have some fun and try and keep your profile low Liam, you will get more out of the site that way. If in a few months you still feel that there is a gap in the site for a new help group, then you will have a much better idea of how to plan and implement it.
Stick around this time and don't make out you know more than the other volunteers on site.
My anyway

Its not the amount of id’s or the help groups that he’s set up and abandoned that’s got my goat up, its all the lies he tells, he comes on in another id and pretends to be some one else who’s completely new, after he’s been found out he then admits it’s him (Liam)
This above all else is the worst of all of his actions on line,

SomeMuppet Posted Feb 1, 2004
It's annoying yes. I would say however that at least he is coming clean. If he sticks to the one ID and hangs around for a while then fine and dandy. I still say lets try and help rather than tell him to get off our site. As I said before it is the site for Life, The Universe and Everything so surely we can find a niche for him on here somewhere
