How can i add a photograph into a guide entry?

Er, well, the short answer is: you can't, unless it's in the <./>GuideML-PictureLibrary</.> or it's one of the ones that have been "blobbed" for official h2g2 use. Unless you can bribe one of the italics to blob it for you, which is very, very, very, very, very unlikely. smiley - erm

You can add photographs to your space like this

<./>http://www.goped.com/images/Products/bigfoot/pics/bigfoot-6.jpg</.> , but you cannot on guide entries(I think)...
or you can just goto my page and swipe the code.smiley - smiley

smiley - towel

I saw a pic of Douglas Adams on someones site, does that mean that they've basically bribed someone to get that then?

So you can link to a picture, but you can't officially have an actual picture on an entry?

The Douglas Adams pic is one of the official ones, it's used on his personal space (he was U42 of course!)

<./>GuideML-PICTURE</.> tells you how to do it. smiley - smiley

The pictures are in the libary, as explained in post 2. To get new pictures done you either have to write a very good article on a subject, and get it into the edited guide, and hope it is selected as the editors choice, and gets a blob, OR you have to make a club about it, get lots of members, be really active and submit it to the Community Artist Requests page.

Can you give us a hand with this minor set back too!?

I've just put <SMILEY TYPE="Yawn"/> into my entry (guide ml) but its just coming up with a little red cross in a box instead...?

You need to use all lower case letters for the names of the smileys. You can't use mixed case at all in GuideML.

<SMILEY TYPE="yawn"/>

Tango, I don't think many of the photographs which are blobs are actually in the picture library. There are several of Douglas Adams though if that's what you want, Footbacon. If you want something else that already exists in the database then I might be able to find it.

And since we've lost a lot of italics recently, I'm not really sure what the remaining ones can be bribed with. smiley - winkeye

Why restrict it to the h2g2 staff. There's the rest of dna and BBCi too.

What's and "italics" and what does it mean to get "blobbed"?

The italics are the staff/editors, so called because their names are in (bold) italics. A blob is an image, to get blobbed means to become a blob, images start off as normal image files (gifs, jpegs, etc) and then are sent to the italics who "blob" them, which makes them available for use on site.
