I know this was a biggie in the Aceforum at some point, but I can't remember the outcome. So what did everyone agree on, really, as the 'official' subject heading when ACEing someone's page?
Personally, I like to use 'Welcome!' as it looks a lot friendlier than 'Welcome...'. I know that people like to use it to identify an ACE greeting, but surely it doesn't matter what you use, as long as the new users are being greeted?

Afetr much debate we decided basically nothing. You should put the elipsis (...) but don't have to. You can always try "Welcome!...." or some thing to that effect. I would certainly agree with you but, it does some times make life much easier....

You don't have to use three dots you know, you can use three of any punctuation mark. So "Welcome!!!" would be just as good.
Also, I tend to check that every conversation, even ones with the three whatevers after them are ACEs, as sometimes they're not...

I usually put three dots in deference to people who find it helpful.
But personally I don't see the point, because there's absolutely nothing (and IMO *should* be absolutely nothing) to prevent a researcher who is not an ACE greeting a newbie and happening to use three dots. I prolly did it before I was an ACE, because I liked to vary my greeting...
So yeah, I think Ming Mang is exactly right to check *all* the conversations.

Agreed - because people do greet the newbies (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with non-ACEs greeting new people) it does get confusing, and having a set system doesn't really work. That's why I keep to my exclamation mark, because it really doesn't matter in the end who does what. As long as we're doing our job somehow!

I just use any old piece of punctuation three times...
Like if I want to say 'Welcome!', I'll say 'Welcome!!!' instead. I don't know if it's confusing to other ACEs or not, but I *do* try to use the three dots.
