Is it just me, or is anyone else experiencing error pages and very slow loading on the New Researchers pages? This has been happening everytime I've visisted the page for about the past week.

Me too, it has even been slow or unable to load at 2am. I was hoping by posting later with fewer online it might be easier, but it isn't.

The poor hampsters!

I saw 3009 yesterday.

We are routinely very busy between about 1pm and 5pm weekdays, with Wednesday and Thursday the busiest days. As people across all the DNA sites are posting more and more, the servers get sluggish occasionally.

We're working on fixing the bottlenecks, but it's a slow process - we first have to reproduce the slowdowns by hitting a test server with tons of requests. Then we have to work out where to speed things up. Then we have to test those changes to make sure they really help - it's all too easy to make changes that you think should speed things up, only to have it actually make things worse.

But we're well aware of the slowdowns, and hope to improve things in the near future.

e.g i was ACEing at 6.30am and it was really slow and kept giving me the "an unknow error has occured" thingy

What was happening with me was; the New Researchers page came up, no problem. I'd make my choices from the dropdowns and radio buttons and click 'Show researchers' that was when the error page, (same as Cal was getting) came up. Also if I wanted to find out how many pages of newbies there were, and clicked 'Newer Registrations' the error page came up then as well.

I've just tried it out, five times out of five it worked just fine.
