Welcome to the slaughterhouse. And I hope you can find a decent pair of shoes.

Well, hullo to you too, bluDragon (alias R15304). I was just thinking of you, as I was reading through the "Christians" postings. I've been meaning to drop you a line...

And I've found some of your postings interesting as well. I've been meaning to look into some of the Wiccan postings, but I've been tied up debating the meaning of life with some young God-fearing types, as you have seen. Just trying to spread the word... my own version of it, that is.

So, have a seat. I know you like tea. Chamomile, Oolong, regular, or Sleepytime...? My cat would say hello, but she hid under the covers when she heard you coming. She is a timid soul. (sigh) But a sweet natured one.

By your postings, I have inferred that you are in a minority here on H2G2, as you are 1) not 17 and 2) a woman. Unless I've misread something. Refreshing facts, both.

I must get going, really. I haven't been following enough of my own advice (as seen on my homepage) recently. I'm not much in the mood for dancing or singing just now, so perhaps I'll find a quiet place to think.

Peace and love.

....and Toker, I am sad to say that you are the first who has caught the Kurt Vonnegut reference in a long time. Or at least the first to mention it. Now, back to your yellow walls...

billypilgrim billypilgrim...
I knew I had met you somewhere before.

I am ashamed I didnt recognize you at first, but it's been a long time since I visited the slaughterhouse, myself.
I have been going other places with Mr. Vonnegut over the last 30 years...

And now comes Toker, who recognized you immediately, and discusses Baudelaire on his/her/its page.

I, as you have correctly concluded am 1) not 17 and 2) a woman, [well, at least a female dragon] and am also alert to literate, coherent conversationalists of all sexes and ages. So hullo to toker, as well. and welcome to the monkey house.

I would love some tea. Sleepytime is one of my favorites, but it puts me right *yawn* to sleeeeeeeeeppp... I'll just nap a bit, till you get back then.

zzzzzzzzz

Ah, well, all is forgiven. I can see where you wouldn't recognize me right off the bat. I've come unstuck in time, you see, and I've been in and out of my own life quite a bit.

My favorite line from Vonnegut is his explanation for why the world is the way it is in "Cat's Cradle". Play cat's cradle with a child. Take some string, tangle it about. The child looks at your hands, looks at the string. No damn cat. No damn cradle.

Go on napping, if you like. It's that time of year for naps. Toker is already out cold. I think he/she/it, erm, toked a bit too much. (waves hands in front of face, chasing away the lingering fog). But Toker HAS left behind some chips, and some popcorn, and part of a Snickers bar, if you're hungry when you wake. Here's a nice blanket. I'll just blow out the candles, move the cat off your feet (she's not as frightened of you when you're sleeping--but has no concept of entertaining house guests) and retire myself for the evening.

Sleep well, everyone.

*yawn*
Thank you for the cozy nap. I think the cat has started to get used to me.

I understand about becoming unstuck in time. The older you get, the more of a problem this becomes. And the truer the 'no cat, no cradle' situation becomes, as well.

I am guessing that you are a somewhat recent hire as a Guide Researcher? [They seem to be currently serving #104200 or therabouts] And I see that PeregrinÝÄÇË [Assistant Community Editor] has been by to say hello, sorta. Dont know if it can really be considered an official hello, but it sounds as if you know some of these people already???

If you have any questions that they dont get around to answering, let me know. I seem to have been here since the first coupla weeks, but you never can tell, it might just be one of those eddies [in the space-time continnuum].

And I would be happy to offer any help I can to billypilgrim...

I do believe the cat is getting used to you. She'll warm up soon enough if you just let her be; she doesn't like when people make a fuss. And she only comes out at night. It's her nature.

Yes, I am fairly new here. I started responding to one post by someone I knew just so I could get in a dig at him, and somehow I ended up responding to another post... and another... and another. These things will happen, when you like to write.

Yes, Peregrin was by to say, erm, well, to say... well, to make his presence known. I've run across a few ACE's in my wanderings.

And now I must have lunch. It's nearly 3pm. The Christmas tree has been put up with only a little fuss, but it is still waiting for lights and ornaments. The Christians on H2G2 are busily chatting among themselves about the importance of respecting the faiths of others. The sun is shining in a washed blue sky. The cat is sleeping under the comforter (which she apparently just got a tear in. Silly.) All is well with the world.

Decorating awaits. Unless I've already DONE it, and just slipped back a few hours without realizing it. Hmmmm.

Ah, yes, Toker. Welcome To the Monkeyhouse. Was that the one where the people were offended by the monkeys masturbating in the zoo? So someone made some pill. And now no one wants to have sex anymore. Or something. Maybe I've got it crossed with a different one.

Of the short stories, my favorite is Harrison Bergeron. Of the novels, I THINK my favorite is Cat's Cradle. But after reading about 20 or so of Vonnegut's novels, I'll admit that they all tend to run together in my head. So I could be wrong...

Yep .... that pretty well describes 'Welcome to the Monkey House'. Just kinda merged all the stories into one ... and interesting concept.

Almost 11 pm here .. so guess we are on different continents

Ooops, your last one posted twice.

By the way you spelled "favorite", I'm guessing you're English (or Irish or Scottish or Welsh). Which would mean you are five hours ahead of me. Or I am five hours behind you. Whichever way you want to look at it.

You been missing from these parts, girl. Hope you have been using your time productively. The weekend starts here. I have a Christmas party tomorrow, but (you will be delighted to hear) the place I am staying has no internet access, so you will not be subjected to my delerious ramblings. See, every cloud has a silver lining.

(smile) Ah, Toker, you will be missed. Yes, the weekend starts here. And as time passes, I find that time alone with myself is more precious to me than time spent out with my friends. Although I still enjoy the latter as well.

The nice thing about the 'net is that you have the best of both. You choose when and who and how you talk to people, and if you are feeling reflective and reclusive, you can not turn on your computer... and still not offend anyone.

Cookie...?

Chocolate chip ... my favourite (English).

Didn't know you were in the vicinity, Bill. Nice to hear from you again. I do so much agree with you. Must have come out of the same pod.

Have a good evening. 02:20 here, so time for bed. All that socialising I have to do. Need to be on top form. Joint en route tomorrow, so at least I shall be unaware that I am talking bollocks.

That made me chuckle.... and it is the first reference to your namesake.

Random drug-testing policies in the work-a-day world have made me a bit paranoid. But perhaps I shall make some more cookies. You'll want them after you've, erm, partaken. If memory serves. And perhaps something salty as well? And a nice glass of iced tea.

And yes, I can tell you're English by your spelling. Damn country, can't even use its own language properly.... (haha. That was, in case you missed it, a joke. Making fun more of us Americans than you English.)

My dear friend (and so much more) Shawn made an interesting comment about American English: "Zeds everywhere," he said. I 'realize' that when you 'socialize' you consider it 'civilized'. Haha.

The only testing here is to check the quality. But apparently the police do now have a device for testing for cannabis; I think it is something they wipe over your palm.

The trouble is that it stays in your body for ages after you cease being stoned and still gives a positive reading. Not that I let such a gap occur.

Have to skip the tea, Bill. Knackered here. If you get time, pop into the Godot site and accept your role. We'll rehearse the lines later.

Very glad that you have found love.

Post 19

The fact remains that it is not illegal to BE stoned, only illegal to be in possession of the drug or the "paraphenalia." But you CAN lose your job over it. Not sure that it's entirely constitutional, but there you go.

And yes, I'm glad I've found love, too. I believe true love is very rare. I think I've found the real thing here, but only time will tell on that one.

Post 20

Toker

It is your last few words that struck me. I am as stupid as you. Real love is permanent, otherwise is it not real; just a happy mixture of friendship and lust.

We are dreamers, Bill. But 'if our dreams are not to be fulfilled, they should at least be splendid'.

There are, of course, exceptions. I do hope yours is one of them.
