Darn! (As any youthful Sorn would say.)
I didn't think anyone would guess I was an American so soon. But, actually, I'm Irish-American. Phadraig is one Gaelic version of my English name of Patrick. Padraic yet another.
And, as for the introduction, I was trying to stay in the spirit of the original story lines of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Maybe a little touch of Tolkiens trilogy, and the local expression when a wayward hunter blindly opens fire at an imagined deer of "eat dirt!", thrown in.
Thanks for responding. I've been in and out the past two weeks (training in the mythical art of networking new technology with old computer systems; aka, digital copiers and nervous typewriter users.)

Sorry to take so long to get back to you ... I had to travel to the "Land of Mundania" (ref: Piers Anthony) for digital work things (ok, I work with my fingers) ... slan, loosely, is farewell in Gaelic (Irish), or person, or health, or other stuff, depending on how it's used in a sentence ... and it comes with an umlaut over the 'a', which I don't have on my keyboard ... and not that I'm conversant in the language, but since it is the one used by my ancestors, I've recently been exploring its use ... p.
