The Halfway Point Of Christmas
Afgncaap5 Started conversation Dec 30, 2005
Day 6 of Christmas is here. Yesterday, early in the morning (approaching 7 AM, as the three of us hadn't fallen asleep all night, just speaking about video games and time travel), I handed out the last two of my gifts for the 12 day period: a Nightmare Before Christmas DVD (to a friend who had been avoiding watching that movie for the longest time) and a Darth Tater (Mr. Potato Head with a Vader outfit). They seemed to enjoy it.
And the day before, I gave the first gift: a Kim Possible movie called So The Drama. I can't believe they almost cancelled that show, it's so hilarious. And the movie did not dissapoint.
Though when the show is renewed it'll give an odd continuity dynamic to the two main characters.
Anyway, I've not given much of a Christmas gift to my friends on h2g2. In a text-based world, the gift can't be more than words. So a seasonal greeting is probably the best.
But what to say? It can't be a cliched message. You've got lots of those already, I gather.
And since I know many of you don't celebrate Christmas with the same religious overtones that I do, it might not be politically correct to even outright say something along those lines.
I also can't do something too silly. I mean, silly is good, but I gather that you've also had your fill of silliness.
But what of a combination? Something religious enough to meet quota, but still silly enough that my fellow researchers wouldn't be offended if they don't believe?
The appropriate message came to me in a sudden flash, and I can't believe that I've never seen it stated anywhere before. This may be the first time that this holiday message has ever been written (though it wouldn't surprise me if someone can point me to a Time Magazine cover that says something along those lines, or something).
So in short, the message:
During this period of 12 days, let us all remember that there is a recorded period of FORTY-TWO generations between Abraham and Jesus. Coincidence? I think not.
Merry Christmas!

(Incidentally, that's in Matthew 1:17, with the previous sixteen versus building up to it. Just FYI. Ciao!)
