Ever read any of his Bill the galactic hero books?

I read the first one many many years ago, and enjoyed it (especially the bit where he gets the replacement arm which is the wrong-sided version, so he can shake hands with himself).
Never got round to reading the others... not for any aprticular reason, just never seemed to happen. A friend of mine has read them, and says I should too.
I will one day! I really want to read _Stars and Stripes Forever_ first. When I can get round to it!
Regards, jd

Yes, also impressed with the psuedonym, and of course you've read the book. But there are 5 or 6 "Stainless Steel Rat" books. I'm sure you know that, but does everyone else out there? Major promotion is needed here for those poor souls who think Indiana Jones is the ultimate hero.

Whoops, that's me embarrassed. Going off half-cocked again. I wrote the previous entry before reading all of your page and others comments.

Don't worry about it! If I had a penny for every time I've done that myself!
Welcome to the sparse-but-fun Stainless Steel Rats!

Hey, NervousRex! Welcome to h2g2, and to the Rats!
If you've got any questions about what's going on here, or how to use the site, feel free to ask.
One Rat book I'd like to see HH write would be an Angelina autobiography. I guess the early part of it would be pretty sick!
Cheers, jd

I've often wondered if it was just me: since falling in a big way for the SSR character in the first Harry Harrison book I bought at school about twenty years ago (SSR Wants You), I've bought every HH book I've seen for sale ever since. Twenty-something at last count.
My personal favourites are
* any of the SSR books
* any of his short stories (I've recently re-read One Step From Earth and Two Tales and Eight Tomorrows and they're still brilliant)
* a definite weakness for the Technicolour Time Machine/Star Smashers of the Galaxy Raiders
* the Deathworld series
...I'd probably end up saying nearly all the rest, too, given time
Phil
