Well... I've seen you around but we've never really chatted. When I noticed your page remained uncommented upon, I decided to step in! It's an addiction I have, see, being first to make a comment. I'm sorry, in advance, for any spelling or grammatical errors I've made... mechanics of the language have never been my strong suit.

Thanks once again for the info about how to get back to the front page. I've been following you around too. Coming out as a pedant is actually a bit dangerous as the Law of Pedantic Reverberation seems to apply particularly heavily. Personally I'm scratchy about misplaced apostrophes and mourming the demise of Latin plurals. I think "data" has finally become a singular, but I'm battling to save "media" from a like fate

I think I shall start following both of you around. I want to become the h2g2 stalker... BWAAAHAHAAAA...Ahem.
Anyway, nice to see an ACE actually performing his duties, as opposed to Vibenstein who just keeps joking about in the forums with me. Which, of course, I am grateful for, since he's a fun character...

Thank you! Though I'm not entirely sure I was officially an ACE when I posted that. It got buried in all the other forums I've been in, so I didn't even realize Wandrin'star had replied! And I do plenty of joking around in other forums with people... smiley - bigeyes

Oh, I've seen that. Absolutely. It was not my meaning to insinuate that you don't. It's just that I've known Vibe for some time now...smiley - smiley

It's great to have you guys sitting around chatting on my balcony in the sun. While you're here perhaps you can solve a small problem for me.( I've poured the Duke a virtual 30 year old Laphroaig. What can I get you Irving?) I've just finished correcting a listening test . In answer to question 16:"What word is repeatedly used in the discussion that has a similar meaning to "ready" for Y2K ?" , I have the answer "tickle". If either of you can come up with any plausible or implausible connection, I'll give the lad the mark. Meanwhile, "Slange"

Perhaps "tickle" was a pet word his mummy used to mean "ready" when he was a child? Oh, and I'll have a coke on ice with lemon, please!

The only thing I can come up with is the word "had". As in "Oh no! It's January 1 2000 and my computer just exploaded! I've been had!"
*Zips Laphroaig with extatic expression*

I don't think that's good enough to tip him over the pass line. Perhaps we'd _all_ better have another drink. Maybe he'd been at the hard stuff himself when he wrote it, though HK Chinese don't seem to drink very much.smiley - smiley

Never virtualy drank a virtualy 30 year old virtual Laphroaig before. It kind of goes against my virtues, but I think I'll have another, if you please.

Here you go then. Alas, not as good as the real stuff of which I bought a bottle fairly recently at Changi duty free. Posting the bar code number of it to the Laphroaig site got me a free square foot of Islay. If you're in those parts any time, feel free to land on it.

As a matter of fact, I'm going there in April. We're off to play some golf and some of us are fanatic whiskylovers, so we're planning on having a go at Islay. I shall, of course, look your spot up and leave a mark. smiley - smiley I'm really looking forward to the whole thing, since I've never been anywhere near the UK before. Terrible waste, since I'm somewhat familiar with the language...

You should, by Jove, try the virtual Laphroaig. It's aged 10 cyber minutes, which equals 357 normal years, due to the slowness of the internet at the moment.

It's either the best single malt in the world (MNSHO) or it's undrinkable - people claim to be able to taste the peat over which the barley is malted, or iodine or... It's a strong-tasting whisky from Islay and if we're talking about the 30 year old stuff, very expensive. If you're not a whisky drinker that's OK. Just name your poison and we'll cross back to the cheese people so that you're not drinking on an empty stomach
