I returned from my trip to the UK to find that my ailing computer finally turned and bit the hand that feeds it. All email, W*****s Explorer, Word and Office and many other programs all offline and lost in the ether!
I have, hopefully, managed to use webmail to grab all recent article submissions and, luckily, it allowed me to make a copy of all recent Post files. If, however, your piece doesn't appear this week it is either because I couldn't access it (anything sent before the last edition but before Thursday 12am BST) or honestly haven't had the time to prep it. I spent all yesterday doing disaster recovery when I would normally be doing Post business.
You can still use the email address found at the PO but will not receive an acknowledgement email. Hopefully after the weekend things may be back to normal but those I haven't replied to will need to send an email so that I can, once more, put you in The Post database.

AARGH! I think it's this nasty flu that's going around, my old PC packed it in the other day too, but now we have a brand new funky one
Hope it all gets sorted, let me know if you need any resubmissions from myself (re: the Fables and poetry) or indeed any help with the Post shazz...

I could certainly do with you resending your fable through please.
I think that you were very efficient and sent it somewhere between my email working and the crash so it d/loaded to the (now) defunct email prog and I didn't have time to save it before flying out on Thursday. I have the poems all safely saved

It's really none of my business but couldn't you and people who devote a great deal of voluntary time and effort into keeping sites like h2g2 going be allocated computer space on the BBC system ? Space in which to store and secure work in progress and any backup data that is required for the work that they do.

A nice idea but I can't see that happening somehow. It is just unfortunate that it happened at the same time as my Dep Ed is moving. We both usually keep copies of upcoming/prepped articles which normally serves as pretty good back-up.

"Just concidering the mess the site was last night, I wonder what you would gain on it.
No matter how many backups you make, if the backup system fails you have a problem."

When I did computer studies at school we were taught to keep two backups in case the backup failed.
You could store them on h2g2 - just cancel the entries between working on them. That way you do get BBC storage space. All for free.

But what about all the clever ones who check info and watch out for new entries... we were specifically asked to keep the content off h2g2 until just before publishing time.

I'm fairly sure "deleted" entries are only visible on the acocunt that created them Shazz, although I could be wrong. Failing that you could keep them in a secret identity

"And if you use an 'old' entry like april fools day's the chances of anyone hitting the page while you are working on it are virtually zero.
Comes to mind that is the way to make the entry hit by the random improbability drive instantly by every user ."
