A Conversation for RUSH

Which Rush?

Seeing as this is a topic dedicated to "Rush", and that it hasn't been dedicated to any particular 'rush', I'd just like to make a few comments about the prog-rock group Rush.

First, under no circumstances should you purchase, or even illegaly download any rush songs that were recorded after 1982. Secondly, buy every single Rush album prior to that. Thirdly, yes, that is a man singing. Well, screaming. Finally, I would give my left arm (actually, I'd give somebody else's left arm) to see them live.

Cheers

If you want to see Rush live, and keep your arm , go down to your local music store (which sells DVDs) and buy rush in rio.It is a 5 star DVD which comes with a second disc which has a documentary about the band.
You can probably get the DVD cheaper on amazon.co.uk or play.com .

That is an AMAZING concert! I got goose-bumps watching it. Little wonder they decided to do another tour after that one. If you even remotely like Rush and haven't seen... see it, for the love of god, see it.

Haven't been on H2G2 for a while, but I thought that I would tell you that I am going to se Rush in September.
Not unless Alex Lifeson looses his trial, which happens to be the day before the concert!!!!!!!!
Have you heard Rush's new cover CD "Feedback"?

I was disappointed to see there's NO ACTUAL ENTRY for the band as yet! 'Course I don't really get around to H2G2 that often anyway, so it's no big deal.

I was also disappointed to see someone else posted not to buy anything past '82 or so. Whatta schmuck. There are rockin' tracks on EVERY Rush album, and I'd be hard pressed to find a BAD track.

I have been fortunate enough over the years to see the band live five times. (To finance it I have done such things as eat nothing but peanut butter for weeks, sell my ride, donate plasma [multiple times], slept on hotel room floors, endured a show from the nose bleeds suffering from pneumonia and a 102 temperature [I dashed out and puked during "Xanadu"--finally got to catch that tune live this time around as I was sick on the Roll the Bones tour in Pittsburgh], and most recently I alienated a co-worker, which was no great loss as they've done everything they possibly could to dick me over for several years now! so don't give me that "Must be nice to have Rush tickets handed to you" BS, 'cause I've been through hell and back to see them live, and ya know what?!? It was all worth it.) Each time they were better than the last time, and I think one of the things about the band that really appeals to me is that they can reproduce live exactly what you hear on the studio albums....often even better.

Yes, I have FEEDBACK, and it's pretty good. Sadly I must say my wife LOVES this album, and insists it's the Best RUSH album ever. I'm glad she likes it, but I suspect only because she knows it's not their music. Still, very good renditions of old classics, and it's a little eerie to hear them perform other people's music.

Anyway, they're doing all the songs (or most, anyway) on Feedback live on tour, and it's pretty awesome. Everytime I see them I'm amazed at what a top notch show they give, and to constantly make it that good is amazing. Also, they seem to always do the first tracks from every album, which considering they're pushing 19 studio albums is a feat within itself. (Mm...I've seen Natural Science all the way thru, but I don't think I've ever seen the title track from Farewell to Kings, but again several times they've done practically all the 1st cuts from the albums.) I could go on and on about the band, but I'll tell you this story and then split:
Despite all my best efforts, I have always gotten notoriously poor seats to their shows, and this year my company gave away a set of tickets- I actually won them and the show was scheduled for the day I moved into my first house. Because of co-worker mentioned above, I ended up going anyway and it turned out that in addition to the seats I got VIP parking and I'm sitting there (about 75 rows back, still the best ever seats) waiting for the show, and the seats around me fill up.
Everyone around me is wearing these stickers on their shirts that say "MEET THE BAND" and they've all come from a Rush meet'n greet, and during the show this one guy leans over and hollers, "What's this song?" I say, "It's track 3 from Grace Under Pressure- Red Sector A" He nods, and then three or four tunes later asks again, and I say "This is the LAST track from Grace Under Pressure--Between the Wheels" He nods and then says, "So...is that one any good?!" And I look at him for a second and say "Dude, it's RUSH. They're ALL good." Whereupon he says, "Yeah yeah right....they're ALL good....but I mean, is that album AWESOME?!?" I just shot him a look, shook my head with dismay and said, "Yes, it's awesome...they're ALL awesome."
And that's the kind of guy who gets to MEET the band....***SIGH***. Life is so unfair.

Did you go? Was it good? Ok... stupid question. Did everyone do the same sort of stuff the Brazilian kids did? Did you have a ball?
