I nicknamed myself in tribute to a former soccer player whose distinctive style of play gave me much pleasure. As you're so keen on hockey, why don't you "borrow" a name from a hockey player?

I only took it up last year properly, so I don't know any hockey players. Most of the teams dole out nicknames anyway. As soo as I am established in one team I shoud pick uip a nickname. If I don't, it's certainly one to consider trying.
Thanks.

When I saw your name, it reminded me of Ozymandeous (sp?) Other than the fact that it's long and begins with an 'O' I'm not sure why,,,,hmmm...

You mean as in "I am Ozymandias, King of Kings. Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair?"
No. Thankfully, I haven't got anything like that kind of ego.
I am Ormondroyd, fan of football. Look on my works, ye Researchers, and giggle.

Going back to your lack-of-nickname situation - I have a suggestion. You're probably familiar with DNA's work "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency". How's about a variation on that - Dirk Roughly? You could call your page "Dirk Roughly's Approximate Detective Agency". (Slogan: We always find the solution. Or the next best thing, anyway.)

I like the idea, but came up with one myself over the christmas hols.
Just a matter of adding an appropriate noun to the end of the name. I might just flick through a dictionary for that.
Oh and then I've to think of something for my homepage. hmmmmmm.

Well, good luck. I do understand your reticence. It's odd, but although I've said all sorts of stuff in over 200 Forums, I'm still really shy about actually trying to write a Guide Entry. Oh well, I hope we'll know what to call you soon!

I've become more shy about writing entries myself. I started confidently but have since run out of ideas. The most recent five entries I have made are the only five entries I have made. Pitiful really but I am considering writing mre once I sort my name out.

Ahh, the old question of the nickname... personally, I avoided all that trouble and simply removed the "Researcher #" from the nickname H2G2 was kind enough to provide me with automatically.
On the other hand, if lots of people started doing that, I'd feel a bit silly *grin*.
Having had a quick glance at your entries (and speaking as a sub-editor), I reckon they're of a very high standard... Swimming Caps, Screensavers, Forgetfulness and Pen Names I would accept without delay... Field Hockey is equally good, but needs breaking up a little more - I'd split a few of the larger paragraphs before accepting it. Fire Exits is borderline... worthy in all ways, except for the fact that there ain't much information there... but I'd probably accept it.
There's nothing wrong with stopping writing when you run out of things to write about... exactly the same happened to me, I wrote five entries in the first week or so and that was it (not as good as yours, but they got in ). Still, I imagine I'll contribute again at some point in the future... in the mean time I'm helping out in other ways. And writing annoyingly long forum posts.
Anyway. I'm off... good luck with the article ideas 'n' all!
Regards,

Well as for the name thing, I should point out here that I am about to change it, in the next week or so.
Thanks for the encouragement about the articles, I was beginning to wonder whether they'd ever be read. I take on board the comments about field hockey. It was my first or second piece and I hadn't picked up the guts to try GuideML. I'll do some more editing and tidy it up as you suggest. I hadn't been in the mood until someone had a look at it, there was not a lot of point if no-one read the article.
Thanks again.

*smile* Glad to be able to offer some sort of encouragement.
I wouldn't think it'll be all that long before they're sent off to some sub-editor or other... my latest batch goes up to around A191400, and since most pages aren't submitted as guide entries, yours are probably fairly high in the cue.
Fame and fortunate await!
*grin*

I came across your page 'cause my mystic sub-editor powers told me you were the most active poster on the site... 63 posts in the last 24 hours, that's some going .
In fact, it was that combined with your lack of a traditional nickname... I thought 'what's someone without a nickname doing posting more posts than anyone else?' - which just shows, I s'pose, the kind of prejudice you can get with an unchanged nickname. Still, good things can come of bad on occasion, eh?

I've been missing for a couple of weeks so I'm catching up now. But I didn't think I'd make most posted researcher. Maybe they could have a similar list as the most active forums on the front page?
The Field Hockey page has now been edited into a slightly more readable format. Thanks again for the pointers. I've left the text the same though.
