Irving Washington - Gone Writing

I can't for the life of me remember which Marx Bro's movie I heard that from. I can see (and hear) Groucho singing and marching up and down (seems like in a train car, possibly on the way to a circus?) but I can't remember which film! Help!

"At the Circus". 1939. You are correct in thinking it was in a train car heading to the circus, with Harpo swinging on the lights and Groucho ducking to avoid getting clobbered. Anything and everything you need to know on da Marx boys, I'm your connection. If I don't know it, I'll find out. Capche?

Sounds good. Concidered writting a guide entry on the subject? I notice that when I search the guide for "marx" I come up with a lot of refferences to Karl, but very few guide entries that could possibly include Groucho, Chico, Harpo, or Zeppo. It's pitiful how how few people my age have seen even something as popular as Duck Soup.

I don't know. I'm not sure I have the time. I could talk about the Marx boys for pages and pages, mostly spouting my humble opinion about what I like best and what I consider to be just average. I enjoy bringing them into the conversation as much as I can, like saying at parties when there is an awkward lull: "If you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce, it tastes much more like prunes than rhubarb does.". I am not, in any way, an expert. (I have met people who are, however) But I am (at one time, an obssessed) fan who seems to remember everything I learn.

BTW, my favorite is Animal Crackers. Duck Soup is good in that it has an actual plot. But for the sheer laugh factor, Animal Crackers has it topped.

I beleive I've seen both, but I can't remember which one Animal Crackers was. Theyre very funny, but as you say, the plot isn't always in the foreground, so it's sometimes difficult to remember which gag came in which film. Wait... it's coming back to me... Animal Crakers was "Hooray for Captain Spaulding", right? The same one where Chico asks for a "flash" and Harpo hands him a fish?

The very same. Either your memory is good or you own a VCR. Lots of great lines from that movie. But then, what Marx Brothers' movie doesn't have at least one or two good gags? You gotta expect that every now and then.

Go to my page and see what you started.
