A Conversation for Brussels, Belgium
how about Ghent?

No offence, but I think you should mention Ghent (about 50 km from Brussels) as a place that is worth it to be visited! I happen to live here for seven years now, and I am personally convinced that it is the most sparkling city in Flanders (Dutch speaking part of Belgium) and it also has a beautiful historical centre and a lot of culture ( a splendid modern art museum for example). It is also the city with the most students in Flanders, which makes it young and alive! Anyway, think about it if you ever come to Belgium again!..

Honey is absolutely correct about Ghent (we call it Gent)! A wonderful city that is largely unknown to tourists who instead seem to prefer places like Brugge (Bruges), Antwerpen (Antwerp) and even Brussel (Brussels)! Well, Brugge and Antwerpen I can just about understand, but Brussels! Perhaps it's because I worked there for almost twenty years, but it really doesn't have THAT much going for it!
Gent, on the other hand, has spent the past several years cleaning itself up and improving its facilities for welcoming tourists. It has some magnificent buildings, excellent museums and art galleries, and some wonderful restaurants.
It was also the place where the treaty to end the American War of Independence was signed (the building is now a C&A shop!).
And there are some great little villages around Gent, too -- they even play rugby in Destelbergen!
