Hi there - glad to see the pub is open. Whew long day...
Right, *pulls up a seat* Mark and I have talked about the pub name and decided that it is good publicity for them. If they come to us and get tetchy then we will change it. But I doubt very much that they will.
So go for it... switch on that dukebox...!

Would you like an h2g2 cake or a F&F chocolate cake with "Don't Panic" icing for the opening ceremony?

Hello Peta,
don't believe we've met,
though I've *heard* lots about you...
Also don't believe you've had any cake yet. Would you like a piece?

Ah, this must be the Snug! I must say it's getting quite crowded in the main bar there, what with all the people (vertically and horizontally inclined) and their paraphernalia - you know some guy left his scythe propped up against the bar?
And hello indeed, Peta! I don't believe we've met either. The kitchens here quite are quite excellent and well stocked, but staffing seems to be a problem, so be prepared to strap on an apron or con someone else into one. A couple more pints of Drum Roll and I'll be ready to do another fry-up
I didn't notice the dukebox before, how did they get all those little dukes inside it? They're quite good, aren't they?

Hello Peta, Mustapha and Mad Hatter - well, I've seen you all in the F&F downstairs, but don't think I've talked to you direct much. Phew, it's getting crowded down there! Nothing like a nice little quiet area in which to take a breath.

Aendr, it goes without question that we would *definitely* like cake for the opening ceremony. And any other day anyone would care to mention

Dancing Ermine Posted Nov 3, 1999
In fact, if possible, we would like a cake _every_ other day anyone would care to mention
Was there any chance of hundreds and thousands and jelly tots being on the cake? I think I mentioned earlier how much I like them.

Being an h2g2 cake, and being that there are an awful lot of hungry hitch-hikers, I am sure that there will be enough cake surface (and area and volume) for there to be any variety of cake, that I know how to cook, with any variety of topping, that I can get hold of, with any variety of filling, that I can concoct, in any combination that anyone chooses, if it is not too revolting for me to actually bear to make.

AEndr, The Mad Hatter Posted Nov 3, 1999
well then, what cake and filing would you want below your topping?

Dancing Ermine Posted Nov 3, 1999
Buttercream and jam please, it's absolutely delicious, I finished a whole swiss roll earlier with that filling.

AEndr, The Mad Hatter Posted Nov 3, 1999
that's easily do-able,
do you want homemade strawberry jam?
or damson and apple, or gooseberry or plum or redcurrant or blackberry? all homemade.
there's even homemade lemon curd.

Hrrrrrrrrrr. Homemade lemon curd...
*more Homer impressions *
There's a shop at the top of our road (quite literally - we live on a hill), which makes a fortune out of selling that stuff. And freshly squeezed orange juice. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Anedr - do you know how to make Apple and Stilton Quiche/Flan (not entirely sure of it's title)?

DelphicOracle Posted Nov 4, 1999
Is that a savoury dish? You may mock, but I have been given Apple and Wensleydale Crumble for dessert before... I'm still not too sure about it as an experience.

Dancing Ermine Posted Nov 4, 1999
Well I know you can have apple-based deserts and a cheese board is customary at many dinner parties but I would never have put them together myself.

DelphicOracle Posted Nov 4, 1999
Neither would I, really. Though rich fruit cake is often served with cheese, isn't it. Well, in posh cafes in York it is, anyway. Maybe that's where they got the idea from...

MMMnn Cake! I would love a slice, please.
Very pleased to meet you Aendr. You must drop in for a cup of tea at my place sometime...
