Bistroist,
I just wanted to thank you for your welcome when I first arrived two weeks ago. In the craziness of settling in, I realized that I never got a chance to respond. It's been a wild two weeks and I'm completely obsessed and having a great time. Your note that first day made a real difference in making me feel comfortable here.
I have tried to return the favor by occasionally trolling for newcomers and welcoming them myself -- that's been fun, too. Hope you don't mind, but I loved your tag line in your welcome message so much: 'if you're confused put this in your ear' that I've used a variation on it a couple of times... OK? or will I be hearing from your lawyer?
Once again, thanks.
Redbeard

What?! You've nicked me fishie!! Why you little rotten b*****d...
(Actually, it's quite alright, I think I stole it from somebody else a couple of months ago )
Thanks for the feedback, Redbeard, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. It's nice to know that you've made a difference to somebody
I've noticed that you started welcoming newcomers yourself, and it's great! There's a *lot* of new people coming in these days, so we are the more the merrier. It's great fun at times, isn't it?
If you really like it, I suggest you leave a message for Peta somewhere, telling her to let you know the next time she recruites new ACE's.

Yeah, it is great fun welcoming newcomers, and I noticed the influx of new researchers recently, so I've enjoyed pitching in now and then.
I probably will consider the ACE idea at some time in the future, but for now, I'm still reveling in being a bit of a newbie myself, and sticking to the occasional 'guerilla welcoming' so I can enjoy it that way for a while, before I start feeling 'responsible'.
*checking to make sure his is firmly in his ear*

This is the funniest, nicest and most exiting place I've been on the web yet... I'll be around a lot!
Well, not for the next three weeks or so, since I'll be om vacation, but I'll think at lot about the place..

I know how you feel. Last day in school's on Saturday, from then on I won't have my free web-access any longer. I'll still have my sisters computer, but that won't quite be the same, as I don't think she'll be very eager to pay for me being online a couple of hours everyday
