Ooops, I've let this slide a bit. But seeing as no-one seems to have come through here, it hardly matters, does it?

Hum... sorry, you caught me in my traditional pre-Xmas trough. I'm over it now and thinking positive for 2000. Thanks for your interest...

I find the week between Xmas and New Year's even worse... Everyone and everything seems to be saying 'It's Christmas! You MUST get excited and have a good time!' and when (as I'm afraid seems to happen increasingly often) nothing spectacular happens you feel vaguely cheated. Your expectations have been unnecessarily built up and the result is anticlimax. And then New Year happens and it's the same thing all over again. I made a sort of vague attempt to get into it this year, mainly because it was my first Millennium (hopefully not the last), and that helped a bit. It's certainly inspired me to get on with my life a bit.

yeah, i know what you mean, i made more of an effort this new year too, nothing special, just out with some friends, but i actually had quite a good time, was a bit of an anticlimax at 12 though as my town didn't really seem to have anything to mark the new millennium.

My village had a big thing on the village green with fireworks, the hokey-cokey, conga-ing, inaudible speeches from the local vicar and young people, rotten singers, 'Land of Hope and Glory' ... it was all actually quite good-natured. I didn't know anyone there terrifically well but I thought it was important to be with other people.

yeah? my town fund-raised throughout the year and got a clock built in the square with "alyth 2000" on it, it's quite nice, not too tacky. but it didn't do anything to mark the new century, we expected it to chime or something. there were big plans for fireworks, a beacon on the hill and music throughout the night, it didn't quite go according to plan. actually nothing happened, we just noticed that it was midnight and started cheeering, it was kinda a staggered start. was good though, the spirit of the community and all that, i agree about being with people, it seemed important to be among a group!
