Angry fuck
Prezzer Posted Jan 8, 2000
Angry, certainly. Angered that I see ineptitude at every turn. Angered that this entire nation seems to exist in a kind of 'make-do' rut, where the striving for excellence in all things is all too often out weighed by a 'let's just get it out of the way' attitude.
Don't mistake my rant on the use of expletives as being a mere excuse to print swearwords at any opportunity. You seem to have missed the point of the article. My beef is that language is being hijacked by moral crusaders to suit their own ends and that people are afraid to immerse themselves fully in the grandiose pool of our mother tongue (or mine at any rate, I appear to be falling into the trap of assuming you're English). Why is a word that describes a perfectly ordinary bodily function so taboo yet a word that describes the extinction of entire races used so easily? Words are merely that - descriptive labels to express our feelings. You can't assign quantitative values them. One word cannot be any 'better' or more acceptable than any other and the sooner society realises this the better we'll all become at communicating with each other.
And, to clear up one or two points - I am a fully paid up, licensed and accredited journalist that works very long hours and thus places limits on the times I can access the web for personal pleasure (as has a rather personal family-related matter just recently that I'm not particularly inclined to go into here). Also, I wasn't aware that there was any kind of unwritten law regarding what can and can't be said here. I assumed I was as free to speak my mind as anyone else and will continue to do so regardless. (Incidentally I'm friends with several of the staff at The Digital Village and mentioned my use of language to them at the time - they said they didn't have a problem with it). Plus, as you say, people are, sadly, unlikely to encounter my rants unless they are specifically looking for me anyway. Besides, have you spoken to many twelve year olds lately? Their vocabulary would put dockworkers to shame.
Anyway, I save the journalism for my professional outings. I intended to use this place as more of a journal/random thoughts kind of thing. Not that I have to explain myself to you.
(Not one expletive used at all - aren't you proud of me?)

In the interests of completion, I missed out a 'to' in the above message so here it is for you all to place in at your leisure.
Pretension
Lonnytunes - Winter Is Here Posted Apr 25, 2000
And of course any reporter vain enough to call themselves a journalist is, by any reasonable definition, a pretentious f***wit.
