Over the next 30 hours or so, I am going to be engaged in a lunatic enterprise in aid of charity. I am taking part in the Bradford University Theatre Group's 24 Hour Show.
This, I should explain, is not a show that actually *lasts* 24 hours. It *is* a musical show that is cast, rehearsed, and has its set built and costumes made in 24 hours. Recent 24 Hour Shows have included productions of 'Dirty Dancing' and 'Saturday Night Fever', memorable for being surprisingly proficient and for having some entertaining ad libs when actors forgot their lines.
At 7:30 tonight, I and the other prospective participants will assemble at the University's Theatre In The Mill. Only then will we be told which show we're doing. There will then be auditions for actors and singers, and people will volunteer to work on the set and the costumes. And hopefully, at 7:30 on Saturday night, we'll have a show. I'm going to audition for the acting bit: if I don't get a part, I'll help with the set.
So I've stocked up with glucose and caffeine tablets, packed a bag with a change of clothes, and shortly I'll be setting off for the theatre. I expect to get little if any sleep tonight.
However, I do hope to make a quick visit to the Uni library at some point tonight and/or tomorrow. There is Internet access there, so I'll be checking my messages and perhaps describing our progress. And if you're in the vicinity of Bradford University tomorrow night, it starts at 7:30, and admission is £4.50 (£2 concessions). All proceeds go to the Bradford Soup Run, which feeds the homeless.
Perhaps I'll see you there. But I can't promise that I'll be making any sense by then...

Well, sad to say, I didn't get a part in the show. But I'm not taking it too personally, because the show turned out to be 'Chicago', in which most of the lead roles are for women. I did have fun singing the opening song, 'And All That Jazz', at the audition, though. Extraordinary lyrics: 'I'm gonna rouge my knees and roll my stockings down'. I asked some of the women in the theatre group, and none of them had ever rouged their knees.
So I have been able to go home and get some , which at my age is probably just as well. I'll get back up to the theatre soon and help them with the setting up of the set.

According to Great-Granny Weatherwax, rouging the knees was done in an attempt to make them look slimmer
*wonders where she can find 2 ton of rouge*

D'you think it would work if I rouged my whole body?
