I didn't actually sit through the Eurovision Song Contest, you understand. But I got home from the movies, put on the TV in time to catch the last half of the voting, and watched with fascination as the UK entry was given a big fat zero by juries all over Europe. The hapless Brits came last, without a single point, while the prize went to a troupe of singing belly dancers from Turkey.
Terry Wogan darkly hinted at 'political reasons' for this extraordinary turn of events. So are we being snubbed for being warmongering lackeys of the American Empire? Or was it just that the British entry was crap?
I may not be able to sleep tonight for worrying.

Both, IMO. the girl singing ours started out of tune, but she wasn't the only one...

Hey look any idiot can win the Eurovision Song contest, and frequently do. It takes real skill to come last with zero points

I heard, how odd, well at least we know how they feel, *sigh*

Perhaps it's time for the Prime Minister to intervene personally to prevent a recurrence of this national humiliation. Ugly Rumours must reform in time to perform Britain's 2004 entry.

I reckon it was a combination of an average song, a sub-standard act and the fact that nobody in Europe likes us at the moment... Tony Blair should sit up and take notice!
There was something not quite right about the girl's dress, too.
(I went to a Eurovision party as I seem to do most years - great fun, I've got a mate who's well into it and you have to represent a country in terms of either food, drink, or costume... or preferably all three. The best approach to date has been someone justifying their representation of Iceland by turning up with what they insisted were called 'Bjork Scratchings'.)

We know the feeling - happened to us last year... And the poor Danish girl actually did sing quite nicely.
(just for the record: didn't see any of it yesterday, so I don't know whether the UK girl did or didn't)
Rumours lately in the Danish newspapers have it that a handful of nations (I seem to recall Russia being mentioned) had pre-arranged their voting. Might be true or might just be an up-to-this-year's-event fancy news story...
