Have you read "The Unconsoled" by Ishiguro? I think the spelling is correct. Now there is a novel I think you may enjoy. I can't say its in anyway exciting but I think its got to be the most unique (?) read since "The unbearable Lightness of Being".
As a fish sign I also think you may enjoy "The Voyage of the Narwhal" by Andrea Barrett.
But for real spooksville "In a glass darkly" by Sheridan Le Fanu.
I love reading. I cannot sleep at night until I have had a good read.
I originally left this in another section. You will have to excuse me as I am just getting the hang of how the site works. Well I think I'm getting the hang. Any good reads you can suggest?

I must admit that I don't know any of the books you've mentioned. My taste in reading matter is pretty varied: Terry Pratchett is the best-represented author on my bookshelves, but I also read some more highbrow fiction and quite a lot of political books. I've been working my way through quite a bit of the fiction in my University's library this year, partly because I took a short story writing course on which part of the coursework was to read and comment on published short fiction. I especially enjoyed a Doris Lessing collection called 'The Story Of A Non-Marrying Man and other stories' - I was bowled over by the range of styles that Lessing could adopt and how great she was at creating believable characters.
Courtesy of that Uni library, I've just finished and greatly enjoyed a novel all the way from 1928: Virginia Woolf's lush gender-bending fantasy 'Orlando'. I've just started Kurt Vonnegut's 'Slaughterhouse 5' - I'll have to get back to you on that one!
A more recent novel that I thought was truly outstanding was Mark Haddon's 'The Strange Case Of The Dog In The Night-Time'. In the non-fiction, polemical area, the single greatest book I've read as a general commentary on how the world works is Naomi Klein's 'No Logo'. But the one that's had the most obvious impact on my everyday life is Eric Schlosser's 'Fast Food Nation' - I haven't bought any red meat since I read it!

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
