h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Er, hi, Lil. I am making an H2G2 RPG. You may know a vague bit about this. But we need some graphics of characters. Do you want to do them? They'll only be facial pictures, and maybe showing the entire person so I can make the sprites of them.

Hi YK! Haven't seen you since the Foop.

I have a number of characters limned in my floats for the h2g2 parade last year. Have you seen it? You could crop the portraits out that you want to use. For the rest... I am entering a period of some uncertainty over the next few months as I gear up to sell the house and move to New Mexico. I think it's only fair to you that I not take on any obligations until the summer. Once I have the desktop set up in the place I move to (and I haven't the faintest idea where I am moving TO, yet, apart from the state and county), I can start creating again.

...Well, as you know, off-site images aren't allowed anymore (one of the reasons I'm a Zaphodista), so getting stuff off the Floats is about as likely as being able to extract sunbeams from cucumbers.

If I put the images on a web page you could copy them down. Wait! Amy the Ant has already done that, I think. Check her personal space at U135642. If you can't find it that way, I'll put it up.

Say, how'd YOU like to appear in the H2G2 RPG? We'll definitely need the Aroma Cafe for something.

The guy with the spray can is my cyber-nephew Mike A, who was banned for life for breaking the terms and conditions repeatedly. I don't know whether you could work that in.

Also, the cafe can no longer be called what it used to be called because there are cafes in real life with that name and the BBC is afraid that one of them might hear about the cafe here and sue the BBC. *shrugs* I'm not sure what it's been renamed to.

Sounds like it would be fun to be a character!

Howabout Cafe-H2? Er, I can picture you as being someone who relies heavily on magic skills, kinda like Aeris in FF7 ... Er, here's the plot, as far as I can work out. Affy heard about some nasty stuff the Masque of the Red Rejection E-Mail was doing off planet; it had something to do with fish. He leaves, and discovers that this was a red herring. Meanwhile, in the Towers, someone trips over a wire, unplugging and knocking over the SVI*. During the ensuing confusion, STUMPED takes over the H2G2. Affy returns and is soon arrested for asking someone about the political situation. He's thrown into a cell and escapes with YK (since escape is a two-person job). Now they must save the world. Of all the games you could have picked to illustrate the character you have in mind for RPG-Lil, FF7 really nails it, almost to the degree of ESP. Mike A has been playing this game for months and I know a lot about it second-hand. Aeris is great. Will I die early?

Er, no. All characters will live through the entire game. Except maybe some of mine.

But I will need some info about the type of arsenal you'll have. I know that Affy has an Elvish sword that glows blue when it senses danger, I'll have a lightsaber (and possibly a gunblade), Janine (one of my characters -- she's a ninja) will have Nanchaku, Garius Lupus will have his teeth when he turns into a wolf, UH has his Wolverine claws, etc.

Styx the Rat (you must include him, I'm sure the others will agree!) gave me a jewel which I call a healthstone. It is the size of a walnut but a little flatter, and the star in its depths is multicoloured and constantly scintillating. At first having it around just seemed to enhance my well-being, but I have found that it is good for healing and ailing. I was accidentally taken on baord a space vehicle once and used the stone to make the hull sick so that the ship fell to pieces (before we made it into space, of course).

I also have a known talent for numbing the enemy with chat.

A subplot could be how you're expanding your magic skills.

IRL I did karate Wado style for 10 years, so I could defend myself, but also IRL I'm a Quaker and therefore deeply pacifistic, so I would avoid combat if at all possible. This would be consistent with being a healer.

I wasn't referring to IRL. But I suppose we could work something out along those lines.

[abruptly] Ooh! A good idea! You could use a wine bottle as a weapon! The preassure builds up inside, and it launches the cork at the target! Actually, no. That's silly.
