Hiya Mustapha
I have been reading an excellent couple of fantasy books based on Byzantium in late antiquity (and the fall of the Roman West). Author is Guy Gavriel Kay; books "Sailing to Sarantium" and "Lord of Emperors", to be read in that order. I can't recommend them highly enough, if that is the sort of thing you are into ... you can see connections with the people and events of the time, which is not necessary for one's enjoyment, but adds a certain thrill.
Liked your piece on Mohammed, by the way. Very interesting and informative.
Cheers
Bran.

Thanks, though surprisingly unprovocative. Apart from Kaeori and Muqtadee (seemingly h2g2's sole Muslim), hardly anyone's commented on it.
And thanks too for the recomendations. I'll be on the lookout for them.
While on the subject of historical fantasy, for the past several years I've been tinkering with a D&D campaign world loosely based on Roman-occupied Spain. I named it Numantia after the famous village that was besieged by the Roman army, with terrible results shocked the historians and Roman society. Classic theme - brave native rebels vs decadent foreign invaders; with a few halflings and minotaurs thrown in for colour.
Not that I ever intend it to be used in an actual game of D&D, it's just a useful exercise in creativity.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
