I know we already have a conversation somewhere but I'll start a new one.

Seen this? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/4511759.stm

(btw, my laptop went kaboom in a thunderstorm last week so I'm not as quick at answering emails at the moment since I have to use the kids slooooooow PC.)

Thank you for the article link. smiley - biggrin I wish they'd put in the dose that they notice the improvement with, then maybe I wouldn't have to give J such a high dose!

I haven't sent any emails lately, although I've got a list of people I should be contacting!

Trying to fit a part time job in suddenly seems like there aren't enough hours in the day!

From the write up:

smiley - space"The active supplements consisted of 80 percent fish oil and 20 percent evening primrose oil. A daily dose of six capsules (two administered three times a day) delivered 558mg of eicosapentaeoic acid (EPA), 174mg of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and 60mg of y-linolenic acid (GLA).

smiley - space"The high-EPA marine oil was chosen as evidence to date suggests that EPA rather than DHA is the omega-3 fatty acid most likely to help in these kinds of neurodevelopmental and psychiatric conditions... "

The large capsule I take daily is 50/50% fish oil/evening primrose and has 72mg EPA, 57mg DHA and 40mg GLA. So I'd need to take over 7 of them to get the same EPA. However I do have to go for what I can afford, and the higher the EPA the higher the smiley - 2cents. I take it for my joints anyway, but I might have another look around for a higher EPA in my price bracket. I started off taking 3 a day, then cut to 2 a day after a month, then went to 1 a day from the third month onwards.

J is having 900mg EPA and 600mg DHA. I think the first thing I'll do is drop him to 2 tablets a day, which will be 600 and 400. I've got quite a few other brands in the cupboard (thanks Tesco!) so maybe they will have a better balance.

He got called bright again yesterday, by someone who was being talked at by him for about 5 minutes! I didn't even think he was talking about anything very special, just his and the dog's ages and comparing them. But maybe I'm used to it?

I know I go on about what other people say about him, but he's had such negative comments from me over the years that it's only fair. smiley - smiley

More research. Get to them young and make a difference from the start:

I've changed brands and we all now have 310mg of EPA, 190mg of DHA and 80mg GLA. I wish it could sort out my eyes though. I had to put reading glasses on to see that on the label!

Isn't it carrots for eyes? smiley - bigeyes

Thanks for the link, I found this bit interesting - "Some two-year-olds went from having a vocabulary of 25 single words to being able to use whole sentences."

When J started playschool at 2 3/4 he barely spoke more than one word at a time - he was really behind. My brother (who even now has major problems and is now under a psychiatrist because he can't control his temper at all) was apparently slow at talking as well.

I had no idea that could have been related, J's diet wasn't that good at that age, I was struggling to learn to cook (and mostly not bothering) once I'd split up with his dad, and dealing with his dairy problems at the time. Worrying about this sort of thing was the last thing on my mind. It looks like it's all related to the ADHD.

I'm going to ask my brother to ask his psychiatrist to see if he can be refered to the adult ADHD clinic. Maybe he doesn't need all these strong drugs and anti-depressants. Maybe he just needs some ritalin...
