Hello there, O Great Potholer.

It's no pseudonym, I do pothole, though I have been getting a little out of practice lately. Regarding your second question, assuming it _is_ meant to be serious, rather than a friendly tease, did you happen to notice the not-so-subtle clue to my age in my biography - I had a quick look at some of your postings, and I'd guess you were born a couple of decades later than I, and for all you know, I may just be _pretending_ to be a sweet, sarcastic genius.

You take people too seriously.

I do try not to, but it can be hard to be sure what unknown people mean from a handful of words, (especially somewhere like h2g2).
Anyway, to be pedantic, I didn't _actually_ say that _I_ was assuming anything, just that part of my reply was.
I _could_ have just said 'Sure, anytime', but there was a chance that that could have been taken seriously. From what you said, it sounds like it wouldn't have, but then you do know moo, and I don't.

Well, that's OK then. I'll know better next time.

Is that offer open to anyone?? Or just a chosen few.

Depends how good you are
Being temporarily serious, if you're around in the Dales between 17/12 and 22/12, I'll be around the NPC headquarters (Greenclose cottage). Pop over for a cuppa some morning. I'll probably be doing Fresher SRT training-ish trips with my old college club (ICCC) most of the time, hopefully getting them from Lancaster/Jingling/Sell Gill up to Rowten/Flood/Stream/Juniper/Meregill level, weather permitting.
I _may_ be around Greenclose over New Year as well, though subterranean activity might well take second place to socialising then.
Whatever, when I get round to writing my potholing article(s), I'll drop you a line

How good do I need to be??
I would write on further than that but I'd kinda like that question answered first before you here from my mad warbling.

How long have you been caving?
What trips have you been taken on / helped on / led?
Any major personality defects? (beyond the usual)
Got your own gear yet? (what kind of stuff)
How much SRT experience?
Are you happy with
e-x-p-o-s-e-d traverses
20/50/100m pitches
derigging
rigging
and (most important)
How quickly can you climb a rope when closing time beckons
Actually, one of my old college mates was in your club for a while some years ago while doing teacher training (when you did the exchange with the bunch of Slovakians (Slovaks?), including the unforgettable 7'6" Desperate Dan lookalike)

Lisa,
It looks like it's getting a little techy here - so I'll start a new thread for our mis-spelling mole. Anything _you_ want to talk about?
Hello there, O Great Potholer.

PS
Mole,
Maybe it's best if we move to the 'Mole' conversation - it would save this one getting a bit specific and techy. I guess _most_ people aren't desperately interested in how fast either of us could ropewalk up 100m of Edelrid Superstatic 10mm. (Oh, to be totally fit again...)

Why stop a ropey conversation when you are enjoying it.
I suppose you could drop down the following hole, but be careful you may not come back out - try it anyway. Its a challange - can you take it up:
Say I love you in the POST - Why not send a Valentine message to someone you care for or a fun message to a fellow reseacher. They will be published in the h2g2 POST in its Valentine issue. Plus a valentine competition.
you can do it here:

Remember the h2g2 POST Publishes News and Articles every Monday - Write to your very own Agony Aunt. Has Mark Moxon revealed what is about to happen in and around h2g2? Have you been a Guinea Pig yet? Do you fancy yourself as a Reporter ? This and much more, in your weekly newspaper at

Thanks - I'll see you there
Perhaps you could do something about potholing - the POST may publish it

Thanks for your message.
Unfortunately, my preferred Valentine's greeting recipient appears to have vanished, with minimal chance of return. *sniff*. (See 'Come into my forum...')
Amongst several other planned articles, I do *intend* to write something on potholing, but currently I'm engaged yet again in the depressing process of finding a new place to live in SW London. (Maybe if you give me a prod in a month or so...)

Well if time is out - just pop over to the POST and have a good read. You never know you might like it.
