The sporran would contain anything that men from other nationalities would stuff into their trouser pockets, to the dismay of their wives. This could include keys, phones, wallets, bits of string, parking tickets, bottle openers, bottles of grog, compass, spare ammo, lunch, sweets wrappers, something sticky a the bottom, swiss army knife, an interesting stone with a hole in the middle, used earplugs, sheet music, a can of WD40, a roll of duck tape...
The diagram forgets to mention the presence of the counterweights at the back to compensate for all this and prevent capsizing.
It is very important to distinguish between 'full plaid' and 'full plate', the latter being heavier, noisier and more prone to rust.
