I like how you say when the Lenborough Hoard was found - can you say when the other two hoards were found as well?

Welcome to PR!
A very interesting Entry. I will just make some comments as I read, as I usually do.
You say the oldest coins in the Seaton Hoard are from AD 260 and the 'earliest ones in AD 348'. Wouldn't that be the youngest ones? Or most recent? Or something?
What I would find interesting is some information about when these hoards were found. In the section about the Leominster hoard you say for instance that the value 'will be split'. This must mean it was a very recent find so this has not happened yet?
In the section about the Lenborough Hoard you say the coins were 10% silver. I am not an expert on coins so I don't know how this is special. I have a few silver coins myself, they are more recent of course and I am rather sure they are more than 10% silver?
Thanks a lot for writing this!

Hi! I also found this very interesting, and agree with Tavaron's suggestions.
I'd also like to more about the coins from kings Aethelred the Unready and Canute. What languages are the inscriptions in? Who's on the coins? Are they all silver coins? How much were the coins worth back then?
Does anybody have a clue why these coin hoards show up? I mean, was it people burying their money in the backyard rather than using a bank? Or was there some other explanation for this weirdness?

Hi, Thanks for the feedback. The Seaton hoard was discovered in November 2013 and Leominster hoard in June 2015. Not including them will help diversify the style.

Leominster hoard was found in 2015. Examining the coins by the British museum takes time, evaluating them, putting them for sale and raising the money take time(years). The last time I checked the finders didn't get their money yet. that's why I said "will be split".
According to the treasure act, the find should contain (one of the requirements) at least 10% precious metals.

They didn't have banks back in the day; the only way to protect your money is to bury it.

Wow, that is amazing that such large coin hoards have been found so recently
I enjoyed an exhibition in my local museum last year about hoards, and they had samples from some collections that had been found in the late 20th and early 21st Century. That makes sense that it takes time for hoards to be able to be seen, as there is also work to be done to enable them to be displayed appropriately after all the administrative tasks have been completed.
Thanks for writing about these - I hope all goes well for you updating your Entry to improve it with the feedback from Peer Reviewers, but if you need any help, just ask

One thing I would recommend including is adding when the monarchs you have mentioned reigned, so for instance Æthelred II the Unready (978–1013, 1014–1016) and Cnut, King of England, Denmark and Norway (1016–1035).

Very interesting article. Everybody loves buried treasure.
archaeologists is missing an "a" '
I wonder if "detector" might be a slightly better substitute for "detectorist" and "detectionist"...

Phred Firecloud, detectorist is a person whose hobby is using a metal detector. The word exist in the dictionary. So it's Ok to use.
I didn't use the word archeologists, so it can't be missing an a (I double checked). Thank you for your feedback.
