"Northern Soul scene of Lancashire in the mid 1970s" I must laugh 
in the late 70's me and some mates were on holiday in Great Yarmouth 
and at the local disco, me in sort of 
gear
noticed that all going in were in levi stay-pressed type attire
it WAS northern soul nightTough! didn't worry me and I thought what the hell when a record was played that I could do the rocker dance to 
a bunch of "soulies" gave 
looks at me, until I 
said this is a great dance they're doing in Wigan ain't it - before the night was out, I was "teaching" the Lancashire lot how to do a rocker dance to soul music... Always wondered after ? if they got "belted" back home in their own disco venues
