Recently (May 2012) I travelled to England and Ireland to trace my ancestors. I had a lot of detail on my
English ancestors but not much on my Irish ancestors. After arriving in London (from Sydney), I consulted
my relatives in that city. They directed me to the Lakes District. There I took two buses to a town called
Kirkby Lonsdale. I was lucky to come across a helpful librarian who gave me access to local Census data.
Within minutes of scanning this data I had found my ancestors, their address in 1881 and their occupations.
My great great grandfather even displayed a sense of humour on the Census form by putting a question mark near
his oldest son's faculties. Unfortunately, when I went to Dublin, I had a lot less success. Falling back on parish
records proved almost useless.
